Grape variety in Memory of the Teacher
Some varieties of fruit vines, which have appeared recently, have managed to recommend themselves among gardeners. These hybrids include grapes in Memory of the Teacher, bred several years ago by an amateur breeder E.G. Pavlovsky. The variety has already managed to fall in love with the consumer for its taste and appearance.
Variety characteristic
The grape variety in Memory of the Teacher was bred by crossing two good varieties - Talisman and Cardinal. This parental pair provided the new variety with good taste and marketable appearance. The Teacher's Memory Vine shows high qualities during transportation, which is appreciated by private farms.
The grapes do not need additional pollinators. Good self-pollination ability guarantees almost one hundred percent ovary, which eliminates the possibility of peas in the bunches. The active growing season lasts 95-110 days, therefore grapes are classified as early varieties. The first harvest is obtained in late July - early August.
Description of the bush
The vine is tall. Ripening of young shoots occurs quickly, while they acquire a brownish-reddish tint. The description of green mass cuttings also has an exceptional feature - a reddish color along the entire length.
The leaves are large, serrated at the ends, divided into five large lobes. The color of the leaves is dark green.
Description of fruits
Bunches of grapes are cone-shaped or cylindrical, sometimes with a wing, of medium density, wide and large. Each weight is 0.5-1 kg, the maximum can be more than 2 kg. The length reaches 40 cm and more.
The berries are large, weighing up to 10-15 g, units can weigh 20 g. They resemble an oval in shape, sometimes more rounded. The color of the fruit is dark red with a purple tint.
The skin is covered with a thin layer of whitish bloom, which visually brightens it, the skin itself is thick, crunches when bitten. The description of the taste of berries is accentuated by sweetness, fully ripe fruits have a bright nutmeg flavor, the pulp is juicy, dense, and there are bones.
Growing grapes
The Teacher's Memory grade prefers sheltered, sunny, elevated locations. But its peculiarity is poor tolerance to direct sunlight and aridity of the climate. Therefore, a slightly shaded place is ideal.
A neutral or slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5-7 is suitable for planting this species. When preparing the soil, it is imperative to add coarse river sand, wood ash or peat soil to improve the acid balance of the soil.
To get a high yield of large bunches, it is important to maintain the nutritional value of the soil throughout the entire active growing season.
Planting varieties
After the preparation of the site, they are taken for planting ready-made seedlings. For this, vines on native roots or grafted are suitable - both types are accepted just as well. A similar process is carried out in the fall before frost or in early spring, when the surface of the earth warms up to 5-7 ° C.
Grapes are planted in the ground in several stages:
- dug up the site to a depth of 50-70 cm, remove the roots of other plants and pebbles;
- dig a hole up to 80 cm deep, drainage from broken brick or pebbles is laid on the bottom;
- the distance between seedlings should not exceed 1-1.5 m;
- prepare a soil substrate by mixing two parts of soil, part of sand, part of humus and part of turf;
- seedlings are buried up to the girdle on the stem, so as not to bring rot to the root when watering;
- water the vine after planting with warm, settled water.
Plant care
In order for the plant to develop in accordance with the expectations of the gardener, you need to take care of it with great care. Care involves normalized watering, which is done regularly - before flowering, during the formation of ovaries, during periods of drought. It is also necessary to weed the area around the stalk regularly. To make the work easier, many gardeners mulch the soil - they put straw, sod or darkened hay around the perimeter of the root. It is also important to loosen the soil to improve aeration of the roots.
Fertilizers are applied directly with irrigation, many of them are soluble in water. At the beginning of the growing season, complexes of phosphorus-containing and ammonia agents are introduced to improve the ovary and increase the green mass. Before wintering, potash fertilizers are used to prepare the plant for wintering. Between these periods, a small amount of organic matter is added, diluted with a large amount of water. The frost resistance of the variety is average (up to -23 ° C), therefore, the vine is additionally covered for the winter.
Bush pruning is carried out in the fall in the leafless period or in early spring before the buds develop. Cut off the stems to 6-8 eyes. To provide unloading of the vines, the removal of stepchildren is also used so that they do not drag the juices to their own development.
Diseases and pests
The variety inherited resistance to infectious diseases from its parent, the Talisman grape. But still, several times during the active period, the vine is sprayed with complex preparations for diseases.
Pest control methods:
- Birds are the main pests. You can protect the crop from attack by birds using a net that covers the bunches for the entire period.
- To combat wasps, small nets are used to cover the bunches, as well as a special poison without a pronounced odor. During passivity, insects burn their nests.
- To get rid of the felt mite and grape leafworm, use special means (cymbush, copper sulfate, Aktara), which are used from the moment the kidneys appear, but no later than 1.5 months before collection.
- Phyloxera destroys the entire plant in a short time. There are no preventive methods against it. Affected vines are treated with flammable carbon disulfide, and heavily infected ones are removed and burned.
Conclusion
The Master's Memory Grape is gaining popularity. Subject to good conditions, with proper care and with the implementation of preventive measures, the variety pleases with a rich and tasty harvest.
