Varieties of tomatoes fingers
Today, finger tomatoes are very popular among agricultural technicians. They are named for a reason. Their elliptical shape looks like fingers. The variety earned its popularity due to its early maturity and high yield, the approximate ripening period is 90-110 days, after the first shoots appeared.
Varieties
There are several varieties of tomato fingers:
- chocolate fingers;
- Malvina's fingers;
- finger boy;
- children's fingers.
Cherripalchiki Chocolate are distinguished by high yield, excellent taste. The bush is tall, the fruits are finger-shaped, ruby or dark brown. It can be grown both outdoors and in greenhouses. The variety is resistant to lesions of late blight and fusarium. The ripening period from the emergence of seedlings is from 80 days.
Malvina's finger tomatoes are recommended to be grown in film greenhouses and open field. The fruit is medium in size, weighing 60-80 g. The internal structure is dense, fleshy. They are in the form of a cylinder with a small spout at the end.
Thumb-boy is the lowest grade. The plant reaches a height of 40 cm. It belongs to the ultra early ripening plants.
Tomato cherry f1 or baby is a mid-season. Fruits are resistant to cracking, verticillosis, fusarium. Tomatoes can be transported almost without loss and stored for a long time.
general description
Feature of tomato fingers:
- cylindrical shape;
- smooth surface with slight ribbing;
- green fruits consist of two chambers, have a light green tint;
- the average weight of one fruit is from 50 to 80 g;
- are universal in application.
Determinate bushes, small in size. Leaves are medium-sized, emerald hue. The inflorescence is simple, the stalks have no joints. The bush often consists of one or two stems. Ovaries are formed after 1-2 leaves, each cluster has 8 fruits.
All varieties of cherry tomatoes are well preserved. They persist well even with a slight drop in temperatures, heat and even drought. Tomatoes do not crack, retain their presentation for a long time, and are distinguished by high taste. In the photo, bulk tomatoes look simply charming; many gardeners today prefer this variety for its versatility.
One bush can produce from one kilogram of tomato per season in an apartment, when grown in open ground up to 3 kg, and in greenhouse conditions, you can collect all 8 kg from one bush. Most often they are consumed fresh, preserved whole. In addition, you can make delicious sauces, ketchup, and a variety of pickles from them. It is often used commercially due to its good transportability and resistance to mechanical damage. In a cool vegetable store, tomatoes can last up to 4 months.
Planting process
Growing cherry varieties is not difficult.Even a novice gardener can cultivate them on his site, some varieties, such as a boy-with-a-finger, are even suitable for growing at home in an apartment. Seeds begin to sow from about March 15th. Before planting seeds in the ground, they must be treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and then rinsed with clean water.
The seeds should be planted 1 centimeter deep. Three seeds are planted on an area of 1.5 cm. After planting, the container must be covered with cellophane, thus creating greenhouse conditions. The container is placed in a darkened place. After the first shoots appear, the seedlings should be rearranged on a light windowsill, maintaining a stable temperature regime at around 15 degrees for a week. Then the temperature is gradually raised to room temperature.
When the plant has released at least one leaf, it can be planted in a separate plastic cup. Seedlings must undergo a hardening procedure ten days before planting in open ground. In the garden and in greenhouses, seedlings are planted at a distance of about 50 cm from each other. Transplanting into open ground is recommended in mid-May for greenhouses and at the end of May for an open area.
Care
The height of the bushes, depending on the variety, varies from 40 to 100 cm. The plant does not require special care, the tallest bushes need to be tied up if they grow in an open area so that the crown does not break. Regular weeding, removal of weeds near the crop, picking and loosening of the soil is required. When grown in an open area, pinching does not occur.
For fertilization, use mineral mixtures diluted in water a couple of times a month. Watering is carried out twice in seven days. In drought, the number of watering should be increased up to 5 times. Plants give good growth at moderate soil moisture, about 36%. Good yields are maintained at temperatures between 19 and 26 degrees.
What is sick
Resistance to diseases and pests is average. Many diseases are not exposed, due to early maturity. Cherry tomatoes are highly susceptible to mosaic damage. The disease can develop both when grown in an open area and in a greenhouse. Emerald-amber specks appear on the leaves.
Modification of branches is observed. The bushes look lethargic. Productivity is reduced or absent altogether. Affected branches and leaves should be removed and burned. It is necessary to clean the affected areas with gloves and do not touch the juice, because it is through it that the infection occurs.
If there are several affected plants in a row, they must be completely removed and not left next to healthy bushes, otherwise the entire crop will die. As a prophylaxis of the disease, the seeds are treated with special solutions or potassium permanganate before sediment. The plant is practically not exposed to pests.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like all crops, cherry tomatoes have a number of advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages are noted:
- early maturity;
- no need for pinning;
- high productivity;
- resistance to heat, slight drops in temperature;
- resistance to many diseases;
- unpretentious care;
- high preservation.
Among the main disadvantages is the inability to use for the manufacture of tomato juice. The fruits have a dense structure, are not very juicy, therefore they are more suitable for fresh consumption and salting. They grow poorly in the northern regions, and also require a lot of sunlight.
What gardeners say about culture
Reviews of those who have been growing cherry tomatoes for a long time are only positive. The variety is highly fertile. Tomatoes were bred for a long time and occupy a separate niche among favorite plants in the ranks of gardeners.Fleshy fruits are great for canning as a whole, various sauces, lecho and other types of pickles.
The only drawback is the low juiciness of the fruits, which does not allow harvesting tomato juice from them. The culture can be grown, even in an apartment. For this, a special sort of boy-with-finger was bred. The plant looks great in a pot and will become a universal decoration of any interior and a vitamin meal in the winter. Fleshy, two-chambered fruits, distinguished by an unobtrusive taste with an unobtrusive sourness.
Another advantage that novice gardeners, and not only experienced ones, distinguish, the bushes do not require pinching and special care, they grow equally well both in open ground and in greenhouses. In greenhouses, the yield increase is five times higher than in open areas, which allows the tomato to be used commercially.
