Description of Zozulya cucumber
Dutch selection gave birth to a large number of varieties of cucumbers that have taken root in our latitudes, are distinguished by excellent quality and excellent taste characteristics. Zozulya's cucumber can be called one of the best creations of Dutch breeders, tested by many Russian farmers. In 1977, it was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation as a universal variety.
Characteristic
The Zozulya cucumber variety was obtained from crossing two species with different genetic data. This allowed us to obtain a quality product that does not contain bitterness. Zozulya f1 cucumber has been zoned in almost all regions of the Russian Federation.
Zozulya f1 cucumbers are intended for growing:
- in greenhouses;
- film shelters;
- on the windowsill;
- in the open ground of the southern regions.
The characteristic of the quality data of the product makes it disease-resistant to many typical diseases of cucumber crops. The species is classified as a mid-ripening self-pollinated variety. The ripening period is 42 days. Productivity from 1 sq. m reaches 20 kg.
Description of the plant
The height of the bush is average. The whips must be tied up. The foliage is large, dark green. The formation of the ovaries is bundled, which allows the fruits to ripen at the same time.
Description of the fetus
Description of the qualities of the fetus:
- the shape of the greenery is cylindrical, even;
- the surface is moderately tuberous, the spines are poorly expressed;
- the skin is thin;
- average length - 20 cm;
- weight 160-200 g;
- the pulp is fragrant, sweetish, without bitterness.
Crispy cucumbers are great for fresh consumption and preservation. Heat treatment does not greatly affect the elasticity, therefore, the product retains its qualities in canned form. The fruits retain their presentation for a long time, which allows them to be transported over long distances and used in commercial activities.
Advantages and disadvantages
Zozulya f1 cucumbers are immune to diseases such as cladosporia, cucumber mosaic, and root rot. One of the main advantages is the simultaneous abundant fruiting. Self-regulating branching is a definite bonus. The fruits retain their presentation for a long time.
Like all crops, Zozulya cucumbers have their pros and cons. Plants are not immune to real and false dew, fusarium and pest attacks. Salted fruits are best consumed in the first year. In the second year of storage, they lose their quality indicators and become soft under the influence of brine. Unfortunately, reproduction by the obtained seeds of the presented species is impossible.
Growing
Growing Zozul cucumbers is not an easy job. First you need to disinfect the seed. Soaking in manganese will allow not only to destroy the bacterial flora, but also to select hollow seeds: seeds suitable for germination will sink to the bottom of the container with liquid, the hollow ones will float up.
To rationally allocate time and resources, seeds are germinated before planting. Non-germinated specimens should be discarded immediately. After soaking in manganese or saline, take a piece of gauze, place in a plate and moisten abundantly with warm water. Seeds are spread on its surface and covered with the second end of gauze on top.
The resulting bundle is placed in a warm place and regularly moistened with water. If the manufacturer's description indicates that the material has already been treated with growth promoters, pre-germination is not required, as well as disinfection. Seeds of Zozulya cucumbers are sown in May when grown outdoors. If you plan to plant in greenhouse conditions, the timing is shifted, depending on the microclimate of the room.
Growing seedlings
For seedlings, take a ready-made soil mixture or prepare it yourself. To make a soil mixture, you will need fertile soil, sand, peat, organic matter. Self-mixed soil must be pre-calcined in the oven in order to disinfect. It is best to sow seeds immediately in separate pots or glasses. Excessive picking is stressful for plants and reduces their resistance to diseases.
Seedlings are watered every 2 days. It is recommended to feed with urea 2 times a month. In cloudy weather, you need to additionally illuminate the plants.
The seeds of Zozul f1 cucumbers are sown to a depth of 1.5 cm, sprinkled with soil on top. Cover the pots with foil. They remove it only after the first shoots appear. A pick is carried out when 4 healthy sheets appear.
Soil preparation
They begin to prepare the soil for planting cucumbers in the autumn, after harvesting. In the greenhouse, it is recommended to remove the top, used layer of soil or dig it up to a depth of 5-10 cm. In the autumn, organic matter is introduced into the soil. When planting in the ground, you must follow the rules of crop rotation. The best predecessors of the cucumber culture:
- siderates;
- potatoes;
- bow;
- garlic.
Before the spring pick, organic matter is introduced with an ash solution or superphosphate fertilizers. This helps the plants cope with stress and grow quickly. Before planting seedlings, the soil is watered abundantly in about a day.
Landing
Planting is carried out according to the scheme 50 x 30. Seedlings are hardened before planting. To do this, it is rearranged during the day to a cooler room, and brought back at night.
Before planting, it will be useful to treat the beds with Fitosporin. Instead, 3 weeks before planting, you can use horse manure or 2 weeks - bird droppings. The optimum air temperature in a greenhouse or outdoors during transplanting should be 25 ℃.
Care
Proper care of Zozulya cucumbers is the key to high yields. Before flowering, watering is carried out every 4-5 days. Do not water the plants at the root. The best option, especially for a greenhouse, is a drip irrigation system. During the activation of the formation of ovaries, watering is carried out every 2 days.
During the period of active growth of plants, exposure of the root zone can be observed, therefore it is recommended to carry out hilling at least 2 times. To ensure good yields and protect plants from the appearance of fungal diseases, it is recommended to install special trellises for tying. Before flowering, fertilizing with urea and superphosphates is carried out 2 times. Pinching the growth point helps to improve the development of lateral shoots.
Diseases and pests
The Zazulya F1 variety is resistant to many typical diseases of cucumber crops, but with improper care, increased humidity, temperature drops, a rapid development of fungal diseases is observed. With the appearance of real and false dew, fusarium, it is recommended to immediately remove the affected parts of the plants.Healthy specimens can be treated with Fitoverm, a solution of copper sulfate or Bordeaux liquid.
The temperature in the greenhouse is regulated. When grown outdoors, remove all lower leaves from the stem. Both in the open ground and in the greenhouse, such a pest as a whitefly feels great. They fight the moth with sticky traps, the leaves are treated with soapy water. When a spider mite appears, treatment with a pepper solution is usually practiced.
The melon aphid is another malicious pest that can destroy a large plantation of cucumbers.
A fungicidal agent will help get rid of a large number of pests. With a small number, they practice spraying the ground part with a solution of bird droppings or copper sulfate.
A good prevention of disease and pest reproduction is:
- compliance with crop rotation;
- proper care.
Final part
Cucumbers of the Zozulya variety occupy an honorable place among the crops tested for many years. Subject to all the rules of agricultural technology and care from 1 bush, you can collect about 10-15 kg of excellent greens with fragrant pulp. The variety is adapted for growing in greenhouse conditions in many regions of Russia.
When salted and preserved, cucumbers retain their qualities, they are excellent for salads. Among the shortcomings, gardeners note the impossibility of growing outdoors in the northern regions.
