Description

The description and characteristics of the variety make it possible to study the peculiarities of caring for this type of onion. Shetan's onions are classified as medium early varieties; it is recommended to plant them in small summer cottages and garden plots. This variety was enrolled in the State Register for the Central and Middle Volga regions, and in 2008 it took an honorable leadership step among medium-sharp onion species. Such a variety is perfectly stored and does not germinate until next year, is versatile and excellent for planting (sets), for growing, and also gives a unique taste to any dish on the table. Most often, the Shetana onion variety is found in Czech selection. It is recommended to use two-year-old Shetan seedlings for growing, and the seeds - one-year old.

Shetan's description has the following:

  • medium ripeness: the ripening boundaries from seeds - 85-98 days, and from seedlings - 69-65;
  • an excellent time for planting is late April-early May;
  • 1 sq. m can bring 4-6 kg of onions;
  • rounded shape, color - golden yellowish;
  • weight of onions from seeds - 40-50 g, from seed - 80-90 g;
  • the percentage of maturation - 85-100%;
  • there is a possibility of peronosporosis;
  • saves 90% of the harvest.

In the photo on the Internet, you can see that mainly the Shetan's onion grows to large sizes, about 6-10 cm in diameter.

Shetan's trait

Shetana onions are distinguished by their yield stability, good ripeness and shelf life. It is gaining momentum in demand among large farmers and summer residents. The latest reviews of summer residents claim that the most optimal distance between the bulbs should be 5-9 cm, and between the beds - 25-30 cm.The characteristics of the variety are as follows:

  • the vegetable has a dense structure;
  • the bulb is round, sometimes oblong;
  • the color of the upper dry scales is golden;
  • the color of juicy scales is predominantly white;
  • medium-sized onion neck;
  • three-pronged;
  • the taste is half spicy.

Growing

Shetana loves to sunbathe, therefore it is considered a sun-loving variety. This point is important to consider when choosing a landing site. If the onion suffers from a lack of sun, this can lead to poor growth and, of course, low yields. 2-5 days before planting, the seedlings are best placed in hot water for 15-30 minutes, and then in cold water for 40-60 minutes. After that, you need to put it on the window for a couple of days to allow the onion to dry. It will be good if, before planting, you protect the onion from possible fungi, for this you need to place the seeds in a solution of copper sulfate for 1 hour.

It is best to plant Shetan in early spring or late autumn.They say that it is better to plant a couple of weeks before the first cold weather: the root system of the onion will have time to take root well, but it will not germinate. In spring, it is best to plant this vegetable when the air temperature does not drop below 10-15 ° C, and the soil has time to warm up.

Like any other onion variety, Shetan needs to loosen the soil. Before the appearance of the first shoots, it is better to carry out this procedure every day, this will help to strengthen the Shetan root system, after the germination of the first self-arrows, this can be done every 2-3 weeks.

It is better to fertilize the soil regularly. You can use chicken or cow dung. It is advisable to carry out the first feeding at the first signs of the growth of the cross. The second time, when the leaves are already 10-16 cm, and then - with the active growth of Shetan. Watering Shetan onions is best done 2-3 times a month. Watering should be stopped immediately one month before harvest.

Shetan's yield

On average, the yield of onions of a one-year-old crop is 51-59 c / ha, of a two-year crop - 258-291 c / ha. The maximum yield of Shetan was recorded in the Moscow region, then 435 c / ha was harvested. The value of the crossbow is due to the following:

  • constant harvest;
  • excellent bulb shape;
  • a good percentage of maturity;
  • immunity to fusarium rot.

Peronosporosis and methods of dealing with it

As mentioned earlier, Shetan is resistant to the defeat of Fusarium rot, however, as for the peronospora, the culture is defenseless. Onion peronosporosis is a fungal infection that spreads very quickly, and, unfortunately, it is almost impossible to understand where the healthy bulb is, and where is the diseased one or the seeds. This disease leads to a large loss of yield, its insidiousness lies in the fact that it can be seen only at the stage of spread: a barely noticeable grayish bloom appears on the feathers at the stage of vegetative growth.

The first signs are strange yellow spots, then yellow and purple spores appear, often in the morning, especially when there is dew. Infection is very rapid and activity peaks during wet periods. Reviews claim that the fight against it can be carried out as follows:

  • it is necessary to plant sevok or seeds on those plots of land where the manifestations of the fungus were not previously noticed;
  • you should adhere to the distance between the rows, do not plant the crop too close to each other;
  • before planting, it is required to completely clear the land of previously planted vegetables and their seeds so that they do not germinate, and, preferably, to dig up all the land;
  • it is impossible to plant onions in the same place for another 3-5 years, it is necessary for the earth to rest;
  • before direct planting, do not forget to warm the bulbs.

It is also important to remember: onions love being close to carrots, pumpkins, cucumbers.

Onions Shetan has many positive qualities; it is perfect for both large farmers and small plots in the country. At the same time, it is important to be careful: you can plant your crossbow only in sunny places.
