The land in the garden must be mixed with peat. For an average plot of 1 m² you need 2 buckets of this fertilizer. If the onion is grown for arrows, you need to add 1 tbsp. l. potassium nitrate.   • wood ash - 1 glass;
  • humus - 0.5 buckets;
  • superphosphate - 1 tbsp. l.

Fertilizers can be applied to the site in autumn or spring, 2-3 weeks before planting or sowing. The bed is made high when it is located in the lowland so that the water does not soak the bulbs. The land is carefully dug up and loosened after fertilization, all weeds are removed.

Preparing and planting onion seeds

In some regions, for example, in the south of Ukraine, in Moldova, large bulbs when sown can be obtained in the first year.In colder climates, the seed is used to obtain material for planting the following year.

Before planting Red Baron onion seeds, you need to properly prepare:

  • The seeds are hardened, they are placed for a few minutes in hot water (50-60 ° C), then immediately transferred to the refrigerator for a day.
  • For an hour, the seed is soaked in a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate.
  • Add 2-3 drops of Epin stimulant or 0.5 tsp to a glass of water. honey mixed with aloe juice, the seeds are soaked in the solution for 18 hours.
  • Before planting, the seeds are slightly dried.

It is necessary to sow the Red Baron variety of red onions into the ground in late April or early May, when the frosts pass. It is important not to miss the deadline, since at the end of August it will get colder, it will rain, and the bulbs may rot. Sow the onion like this:

  • In the garden, grooves are dug 1.5 cm deep.
  • The distance between them is 15 cm.
  • Water the beds with lukewarm water.
  • The seeds are deepened into the ground by 1-1.5 cm, between them there should be a distance equal to the sowing depth.

To make the seeds visible, the bottom of the grooves can be sprinkled with light sand. After the completion of the landing, the grooves are sprinkled with a thin layer of earth. You can cover them with foam on top so that the seedlings appear earlier. On average, Red Baron onions germinate from seed in 2-3 weeks.

Planting onion sets

In most regions, it is more convenient to propagate the red onion variety from seed sets: this way you can get a juicy green feather already in May, and by August - large dense bulbs. In order for the harvest to be good, you need to properly prepare the planting material. They do it like this:

  • 3-4 days before planting, the tips are cut off so that the feather grows better.
  • The bulbs are soaked for 12-15 hours in water with a temperature of 35-38 ° C.
  • If desired, before planting, the sevok is soaked for 30-60 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate of a light pink hue.
  • At the end, dry the onion thoroughly.

Red Baron onion sets are best planted in the ground when the outside air temperature is 10-15 ° C. If it is higher, the fruits will not be so juicy and bitter. When the plant is planted ahead of time, it produces a lot of green mass, and the bulb remains small.

The distance between the rows on the bed should be about 20 cm. The bulbs are immersed in the soil by 3-4 cm, the distance between them is 8-10 cm. After the onion is planted in the garden, it is sprinkled with earth and watered.

Onions are fed several times a season with different fertilizers, focusing on the growing season. When there are 3 feathers on the bulb, take a mullein diluted with water 1:15, or chicken droppings (1:12 with water), 1 tbsp. l. superphosphate per 10 liters of water. Then, every 2-3 weeks, the plants are fed with potassium sulfate (1.5 tbsp. L.), Superphosphate (1 tbsp. L.). Fertilizers are diluted in 10 liters of water. From the middle of July, watering and feeding are stopped.

If this is not possible, it rains on the street for a long time, the collected fruits must be dried for 1-2 days at a temperature of 45 ° C.

The bulbs are easily pulled out of the ground. After that, you need to immediately cut the roots. The feather is cut so that about 10 cm of the green rod remains. Then the onions are laid out on a piece of plywood, film or bedding and dried in the sun. At night, it is removed under a canopy.
