Many years ago the famous alchemist and healer Paracelsus uttered a phrase that later became an aphorism: “Everything is poison and everything is medicine; It is only the dose that makes it one way or another ”. The words spoken almost accurately characterize the Indian bow. The plant is used in medicine, however, the healing properties of Indian onions are balanced by the harm that it can cause to a fragile human body, because the grass juice is poisonous.

Historical excursion

Contrary to the name, the Indian onion, although it grows, including in India, came to us from South Africa. It has many other names, for example, in Russia it is called affectionately "brandushka", and also - "Chinese bow". In addition to India, Russia and America, it grows abundantly in the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe, as well as in Asia. By the way, he was brought to Siberia from China.

The scientific name of the plant is "tailed poultry farm" from the words "bird" and "milk".

Such an interesting nickname is explained by 2 hypotheses: according to one, the Indian onion was so named because of its small flowers, the color of milk, according to another version, the same flowers smell like "bird's milk" candies (in fact, they do not smell at all).

The plant was nicknamed "tailed" because of the leaves as long and hanging as rooster feathers.

Onions came to Russia in 1961 from Germany - local doctors quickly appreciated its outstanding healing properties.

Description

The tailed bird is a member of the lily family and is related to lily of the valley and some other flowers, which are sometimes grown in summer cottages and as indoor flowers. The plant looks like onions, and therefore, in order to avoid confusion, it is worth looking at how the Indian onion looks in the photo. The "sea" bow is another relative of the "brandu", with which it is sometimes confused.

  1. The leaf is narrow, the same as that of onions, about 2.5 to 3 cm wide and up to 60 cm long. The leaf hangs down and wriggles slightly, this quality can be used for decorative purposes. The tips are slightly curled into a tube.
  2. The bulb is light green, covered with transparent scales. The diameter of the bulbs varies from 6 to 8 cm. The main difference between the onion bulb and the onion bulb is inedible, but it is actively used in folk medicine.
  3. The flowers are small and white, collected in an inflorescence.

The use and cultivation of the tailed poultry farm can be hazardous to health. The danger is juice, which can burn severely. Due to this danger, tinctures and other preparations are diluted.

A little about leaving

Flowering begins in autumn, but sometimes the plant blooms in winter. It can be planted in almost any soil, it is so unpretentious. The poultry garden is suitable for growing both in the garden and at home.

  1. Indian onions are planted in a clay pot. The basic rule is to monitor growth. The plant grows quickly, and at some point the pot can become cramped for it - such a fellow needs to be transplanted.
  2. Water the plants sparingly as it dries. The poultry farmer tolerates drought and waterlogging well, but it is still not worth taking it to extremes. The principle of the golden mean is suitable here. Closer to winter, watering is done less often and poorer. It is preferable to use separated water, since there is a lot of chlorine in the tap water.
  3. Spraying is beneficial, especially on dry summer days. Spraying humidifies the air around Indian onions and removes dust from the leaves.
  4. In addition to a moderate amount of water, the roots also need air for development. This is achieved by loosening the soil several times a week.
  5. The temperature during the growing season should be 20-22 ° C during the day and 12 ° C at night. During the dormant period, you can not so strictly monitor the maintenance of the temperature: it can be lower. The plant is able to survive a short-term cold snap down to -5 ° C.
  6. It is advisable to plant Indian onions in fertile soil - a mixture of turf and sandy soil. Even when buying special soil in the store, you need to feed it periodically, otherwise it will quickly use up its beneficial properties.
  7. The plant is transplanted into open ground with the onset of spring, and it does not matter where. It can be planted even in the shade under a spreading tree, but in winter it is better to return the poultry farm to the house.
  8. Reproduction is carried out in three ways: by seeds, by dividing the bulb and by children.

As you can see, Indian bows have modest requirements for personal care. Even a novice florist will be able to grow his own "home remedy".

Healing properties

The benefits of Indian onions are enormous. In folk medicine, it is actively used as an antiseptic and anesthetic. Indian onion owes its properties to the beneficial substances contained in its juice: a little time - and a person feels a noticeable improvement. Basically, ointment is used for treatment, but you can make a tincture of pure water or vodka from brandu juice.

The healing properties of onions are balanced by the harm that can be obtained from this plant. Exceeding the dose can lead to indelible and sad consequences for the body, therefore, taking a prescription, be sure to follow it exactly. When starting to make a product, it is important to wear gloves and avoid getting the juice in your eyes. Juice is taken in a ratio of 1 to 10 or even 20.

The healing properties of onions seem fantastic, they are mainly used in folk medicine. Although botanists have confirmed the presence of medicinal substances in the plant, medicines created on its basis have not yet been allowed into official medicine. Doctors persuade to be more careful with the poultry farmer, noting that the juice from which medicines are made is poisonous, and irreparable damage to health can be caused.

To prevent this from happening by accident, be sure to pay attention to health changes after using the product. In this case, it is better to try to switch to a vegetarian diet and give up alcohol and smoking at least for the duration of treatment. It is easy to prepare medicines, but you always need to follow the recipe exactly, otherwise you can heal yourself.

The use of Indian onions in folk medicine is extensive: it helps with sore joints, with osteochondrosis, for the treatment of tonsillitis, toothache and headache. The healing properties of Indian onions are used as cosmetic purposes: for freckles and warts.

Top recipes

Juice-based medicines will be more effective if the Indian onion leaf is fresh rather than old. Since infusions are usually prepared with alcohol, it would be logical to stock up on this ingredient in advance. An onion-based ointment is rarely made due to the large amount of juice.

  1. Tincture of Indian onions. They make it with alcohol or water. A common version of the recipe: take a part of the leaves of Indian onions, chop them and pour boiled water in a ratio of 1 to 10. Tincture of Indian onions is used as a compress before bed. Keep it on the skin for only a few minutes.
  2. Another version of the infusion.Making it requires a leaf of the plant and its flower arrows. As in the previous recipe, it is cooked with alcohol or water. Arrows and leaves are crushed and poured with alcohol. The jar in which the infusion is made is removed to a dark room for 14 or more days, then filtered and poured into another container. The medicine is used as an ointment.
  3. Bulb balm. The onion is peeled from the film, crushed and poured with alcohol, and then set aside for a week or so. When ready - filter. The use of Indian onions is the same as in the previous versions: as a compress or ointment. Dilute with water before use.
  4. An ointment made on the basis of Indian onions helps with osteochondrosis. The medicine is made from flowers in alcohol, keeping for 2 weeks. Periodically, the ointment is applied to sore spots.
  5. Indian onion treats breast mastitis, a dangerous disease often found in nursing mothers. You just need to pluck a fresh leaf from the plant, then knead it and apply it briefly to the chest.
  6. Sciatica causes pain in joints, muscles, throughout the body, all of which can be treated with Indian onions. The use of juice here is the same as in the treatment of joints: it is enough to make a compress on a sore spot before going to bed.

The preparation and application of juice follows the same principle: it is rubbed on the body and left for a (very limited) time. At first, the sensations will be unpleasant, even painful: it will pinch, itch and burn, but over time the pain will subside along with the disease.

"Healer with Bloody Hands"

First of all, contraindications to treatment with Indian onions apply to allergy sufferers and people with extremely sensitive skin. Contact with the juice can cause skin dermatitis. It is dangerous to treat people suffering from hemophilia with Indian onion. It is not recommended to treat bleeding with a plant, even if the gums are bleeding.

The juice is poisonous. It must be diluted with boiled water or alcohol, especially if they are going to prepare medicine for a child. Carefully protect the eyes from the juice. Most of the injuries happen due to ignorance of basic safety standards. Any medicine can be fatal if used lightly.

Plants are man's old and best friends. Brandushka, golden mustache and others are selflessly fighting the diseases that plague our bodies. The tailed poultry will save you from new ailments if you take good care of it and correctly apply its medicinal properties.
