Today there are 2 American organizations involved in breeding Pinto horses. One of them enters into its register the whole range of spotted representatives, while the other recognizes only those in whose genus purebred riding stallions are present. Among the registered there are 125,000 individuals, there are both large horses and ponies that meet certain criteria. In the world register, the breed is not assigned a place due to the controversial criteria for horses belonging to it.

- Framework, which assumes the localization of spots on the neck, head and sides: white horizontal stripes are located in clear boundaries, which explains the name of the species.

- Sabino has a solid color in the head, lower abdomen and extremities, the rest of the areas are diluted with spots.
