About naked breed

The bare-necked chicken in the Spanish territory is one of the most common four, which are united by the common name "the Spanish flu chicken breed". In addition to the bare-necked ones, they include Minorca, White-faced and Andalusian blue... The Spanish Minorca has been bred for over a century. The characteristics of Belolitsa are similar to Minorka, in the photo they are often confused. Andalusian from Minorca and Belolitsa differs in blue color.

Golosheya appeared in Russia thanks to the Hungarians and Romanians. Originally, the bare-necked Spanish women were called Transylvanian. In Hungary and Romania, representatives of the breed are often called Semigradskaya Holosheika, since they owe their origin to the town of Semigradie.

In many poultry houses, the absence of plumage on the neck in individuals of this variety is associated with defects, therefore in the domestic agricultural poultry farming this breed is not particularly common, being more decorative, rather than homemade egg and meat direction.

Some experts believe that birds from Spain got their bare necks thanks to a dominant gene transmitted through generations, which may be responsible for the absence of feather follicles in chickens. The irregularity of feather coverage in chickens is laid even in the embryonic period, they are born naked, and this can be seen in the photo. The lack of plumage is steadily transmitted to the younger generation, even when crossed with other breeds.

Features of the exterior of the neck

The name of the breed of Spanish chickens, more than ever, indicates the most distinctive feature in describing the appearance of poultry. The neck area and goiter of these chickens are completely devoid of plumage. Over time, in the younger generation, the skin on these featherless areas coarsens under the influence of the environment, skin folds and redness appear there. In the process of molting in naked chickens, the upper skin is renewed.

However, on the head and in the front of the cervical spine of the Spanish fluke chickens, there is plumage in the form of a cap and a bow, respectively.

Many in the description of the appearance of Spanish chickens with a bare neck see a vulture, others compare pets with turkeys.

At the same time, some other parts of the body of the Spanish women are not covered with plumage:

  • without a feather, small triangle-shaped areas remained in the inner region of the shins,
  • the area under the wing is not covered.

The presence of areas devoid of feathers, called apteria, is a characteristic feature that corresponds to the standard of the described individuals. The more their number, the closer to the standard. The description of the Spanish Golosheyka breed also includes other distinctive features that distinguish them from other chicken representatives:

  • short stature and rectangular folded constitution with a slight elevation of the body and a rounded chest,
  • well-developed muscles,
  • wings loosely attached to the body, slightly lowered down,
  • short yellow or gray paws,
  • small in size, a bushy tail, folded from large braids, located at a 15-degree angle in relation to the body.

The color of the plumage of chickens of the Spanish Golosheyka breed can be varied: dark (black or brown), light (white or streaked).

Among the shortcomings that are not allowed for representatives of the breed:

  • dark iris of the eyes, which should be orange-red,
  • black front part,
  • white earrings, for them the acceptable color is red,
  • the presence of feathers in the neck and on the inside of the legs,
  • yellow tint of the skin in places devoid of plumage, they should be red.

Productivity figures

Spaniards Golosheyki chickens look like turkeys not only in appearance. Their meat also tastes like turkey - juicy and tender.

The eggs of the laying hens of the Holoshek breed begin at about six months of age with a frequency of once every 2-3 days. Initially, in the first year, egg production averages about 180 eggs, but the number in the second year decreases to 150 eggs. Each egg with a brown shell weighs 55-60 g.

The Spanish Golosheika breed of chickens is characterized by rather high survival rates of young birds, reaching 94%.

As for the amount of meat obtained from the Spanish fluke breed, the weight of an adult hairless broiler rooster is from 3 to 3.5 kg. Chickens with a bare neck weigh a little less - from 2 to 2.5 kg.

In most countries, chickens of the Holochek breed are used as a genetic basis.

Breeding conditions and reviews of poultry houses

The conditions for keeping, feeding and caring for the breed of naked chickens are not particularly different from the rules for breeding other poultry.

Feed ration

To provide poultry with nutrients necessary for growth and development, the feed ration of birds should include cereals, vegetables and bone meal... In addition, eggshells and chalk can be included in the diet, especially for chickens, for calcium intake into the body of birds. To normalize digestive processes, many poultry houses add sand to their feed.

Indoor climate

The lack of plumage on certain parts of the body of Spanish Golosheek chickens does not affect their ability to withstand cold. The natural resistance of the organism inherent in them allows the birds to withstand temperatures up to 0 ° С, however, the most optimal temperature regime for them will be 12-15 ° С. The absence of drafts and proper humidity will keep chickens free from diseases.

Breeding

In the process of breeding naked chickens, it must be remembered that Spanish chickens are bred artificially in incubators, since the goloshey do not tend to hatch offspring. Growing and feeding Spanish chickens are similar to caring for chickens of other breeds.

Advantages and disadvantages of the breed

Reviews of poultry houses with a Spanish breed of chickens on their farm highlight the pickiness of birds both in nutrition and in keeping. By nature, the Spanish Goloshek breed is docile and gets along with other poultry. Among the shortcomings of the breed is only an unattractive appearance, therefore not everyone is in a hurry to buy such a bird for their farm.
