All stately pigeons are distinguished by beautiful plumage colors and a special proud demeanor. They always have an important chest protruding forward and in most cases, the wing-wing is strongly pronounced. The birds are so beautiful and graceful that you look at them endlessly. You can see the stately pigeons photos on the Internet and you can't help falling in love with them.

Stately pigeons

Stately pigeons

Regular pigeons, depending on the subspecies, can differ from each other in:

  • color,
  • the anatomical structure of some parts of the body,
  • plumage,
  • behavior during the flight.

But they all have in common:

  • raised and wide chest,
  • wing-wing,
  • tail feathers, the number of which may vary depending on the breed.

The origin of the birds

Despite the fact that today stately pigeons of various breeds live on the territory of the entire globe, in most foreign reference books they are not combined into a group. In Russia, for 35 years now, this category of birds has been distinguished as an independent one. Most often, such birds are found in the Azov region, on the Don and on the Volga, a little less often in Siberia and in the South of the Urals.

This breed is of great interest to breeders, therefore it is always successfully demonstrated at pigeon exhibitions. The first time they started talking about the stately pigeons was at the Budapest exhibition back in 1975. Then the appearance of Rostov white-breasted pigeons caused a real sensation. The judges gave the birds the highest marks, and the audience for a long time could not forget the unusual birds that stood out from the rest. Five years later, when a similar exhibition was held in Czechoslovakia, the palm was awarded to the Volga ribbon pigeon, which also belongs to the stately species.

Classification of pigeons by subspecies

In general, all stately pigeons are divided into three main subspecies:

  • folded,
  • shakers,
  • kachuns.

Each has a number of characteristic features.

Winged

The birds were so named because when they walk, their wings hang down very much and practically touch the ground. Their bodies are of medium size. This group includes such types as:

  • Kamyshinsky,
  • Dubovsky,
  • Rzhevsky.

Shakers

Nature has endowed these birds with very compact sizes.

Their characteristic feature is an elongated curved neck region, so their head is constantly shaking. The tail of all shakers is slightly raised.

This group includes species:

  • Chistyak-chilik,
  • Lugansk,
  • Poltava,
  • Black-tailed,
  • Volzhsky red-breasted.

Kachuny

These birds also have a short body, but already with a large, high chest. The neck of the Voronezh breed and other roach also has a bend and always shakes. Because of these anatomical features, birds sway when walking when they are highly aroused, hence the name. Popular kachuns are:

  • Rostov stately pigeons,
  • White-breasted,
  • Colored.

Flight features

The stately pigeons also differ in flight characteristics, they are:

  • high-flying (all types of winged and partly shaker);
  • turmans (Rzhev, from Kurgan, from Bryansk and Kazan shakes);
  • decorative (Rostov and other types of roach).

Everything that pigeons can do during flight is not only the result of natural selection, much depends on where and how the bird was raised, how often training flights were carried out. Constant rush, balanced nutrition and quality maintenance will lead to excellent results. Individuals raised in such conditions are able to spend up to 6 hours in continuous slow circular flight.

Alas, in the conditions of urban life, it is almost unrealistic to conduct flight training, birds are raised in cramped open-air cages, which is why they fly very badly. It will take a lot of time to restore the flying abilities of city dwellers, in addition, this can only be done after one or even two generations.

Color

In our country, it is possible to meet pigeons of different colors, for example, with a magpie pattern or with a colored breast, but sometimes, on the contrary, the breast is monotonous, but the sides and tail are variegated. Some birds have additional decorations, such as a forelock or two forelocks. The legs and wings look no less beautiful and individual for each specific species.

Features of keeping pigeons

Pigeons have a calm disposition, therefore they are unpretentious in care, and thanks to a low landing, dense plumage on their paws and lowered wings, females have all the qualities of good hens. But for breeding offspring, you need to know the secrets of sanitary and zoohygienic measures (feathers on the legs and wings must always be clean) and specially re-equip the perches so that the birds' wings do not touch the floor.

Every year, since the allocation of stately pigeons into a separate group in different parts of Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries, pigeon breeders have made successful attempts to improve the bird, as a result of artificial selection, special breeds, species and subspecies have appeared.

As you can see from the names, for example, Rzhevskaya, Kazan, Volga, Krasnodar and so on, most often they indicate belonging to a certain area. With a more detailed examination of a particular region, it is possible to trace what feature of the launch is characteristic of this particular area.

For example, Rostov breeders gave the world:

  • White-breasted,
  • Chistyakov-Chilikov,
  • Greek Tsars.

The listed stately pigeons, photos of which can be easily found on the Internet, have a small short body, beautiful plumage and a very important proud appearance. In addition, all Rostov birds are magnificent short-distance flyers.

We will carry out a similar analysis using the example of Voronezh and any other region. Visually, one stately pigeon is very different from its counterpart from another region, but no matter how this bird looks, it will always look favorably against the background of all other pigeons.
