Special features of decorative birds

The decorative group of pigeons is particularly popular and is rich in various breeds, which can be clearly seen in numerous photos. Among the characteristic features of ornamental bird breeds:

  • original color of plumage,
  • extraordinary appearance,
  • specific differences between individual traits and body parts, distinguishing them from other breeds.

Pigeon breeders from Russia like to breed ornamental breeds because of the unlimited possibilities for the implementation of versatile breeding solutions. At the same time, not only professional poultry houses are able to breed such birds. Although most of the exotic breeds were bred outside Russia, domestic pigeon breeders also took part in their breeding. So, for example, in Altai in the 20s of the last century a shawl pigeon appeared.

No matter how the decorative pigeon looks, the purpose of its breeding is an aesthetic pleasure. In Russia, such winged ones often become participants in solemn wedding ceremonies, evening celebrations, and circus performances.

To grow and keep an aesthetically beautiful and outwardly original pigeon as a pet is possible even for ordinary people in an apartment. This is possible for the reasons that decorative breeds do not require much attention to themselves, do not differ in whimsical living conditions and happily live in cages or indoor aviaries.

Decorative blower

The breeds of decorative puffers are among the most interesting in pigeon breeding.

Common in the appearance of blowers

The decorative pigeon puffer differs from the usual one in that nature has in it the ability to inflate the area of the goiter at a time when the bird is cooing, and therefore the name of the bird got a peculiar one. The craw of pigeons grows so much in size that it protrudes far forward, leaving a small head somewhere behind.

Among other features, puffers are distinguished by an elongated body and narrow long wings. Pigeon legs can be either long or short. The color of their plumage is also varied. In nature, you can see white and black puffers, fawn and brown. By the nature of the blowers, they are classified as very temperamental and pugnacious, therefore they are advised to keep them separate from other birds.

Big bum from England

This breed is especially popular with pigeon breeders in Russia and Ukraine. Such birds stretch in a vertical string in a rack, protruding their goiter with a round ball. The British belong to rather large decorative pigeons that grow up to half a meter. The length of their paws, covered with white plumage, in measurement from the femur to the middle toe reaches up to 18 cm. Their small oval head lacks a forelock with a slightly convex frontal part. The chest of the English puffer is long and narrow. The tail is assembled from long feathers and rounded at the end.

The color of the feather of the English blowers can be varied: black, white, silver, gray, sometimes red English blowers are found.

English dwarf blower

This is a reduced copy of its large relative, which outwardly copies it, differing only in growth. In length, a dwarf pout grows no more than 35 cm with paws up to 15 cm long. The miniature appearance of a decorative pigeon gives it elegance in appearance.

Inflated Brno pigeon

This breed of decorative pigeons bred in Brno belongs to the dwarf. Thanks to her natural elegance and well-coordinated constitution, she gained popularity among the world's pigeon breeders, becoming a regular participant in exhibitions. In addition to its peculiar appearance, the Brno puffer is distinguished by good flying qualities.

In length, dwarf males from Brno grow up to 35-37 cm, females - no more than 35. In the stand they keep straight, the goiter is inflated in the form of a ball, placing it symmetrically in the cervical region, touching the upper part of the beak. The Brno pigeon is distinguished by high red paws, devoid of plumage.

The Brno breed can be of almost all colors of the rainbow: red, yellow, black, blue-violet, silver. Among the necessary characteristics of a feather is its gloss, which must be present in black, red and yellow birds.

Structural birds

This line of decorative pigeons is distinguished by the special arrangement of the feathers and the unique forms in which the bird's plumage is folded.

Jacobin breed

Among the decorative structural rocks, Jacobins are distinguished by their chic collars located around their small heads and covering the entire cervical region. A slender bird with a long neck and short legs can be of different colors.

Due to the specific decoration made of feathers, which outwardly resembles a wig, the Jacobins are often called wig pigeons.

Jacobins are unpretentious in their content, but fly slowly and with difficulty, since they are deprived of full vision due to a lush collar, therefore pigeon breeders prefer aviaries for their maintenance. Birds are fearful in nature.

Peacock pigeon

The breed of decorative pigeons got its name thanks to its beautiful tail, which looks like a peacock. They look quite voluminous, and the high-raised chest of the bird gives them a proud look. The birds touch a wide tail with their back of the head.

Peacock pigeons became the prototype of the birds of the world. It is them with big bushy tails that are drawn on campaign posters and photos in Russia and abroad.

The most common color of the plumage of this breed is white. Often there are black and yellow peacock pigeons and representatives with colored tails.

Curly breed

Small in stature with short feathered legs, the bird got its name from the quality of plumage, which curls like a sheep's wool, and only on the body. The feather on the head is smooth, without crests. The ribcage of curly decorative pigeons is wide, brightly protruding forward.

Decorative lines with different unique features

In addition to those aesthetic breeds that stand out from ordinary pigeons in plumage and prominent goiter, there are those that have gained popularity due to other specific features.

Bohemian swallow

The breed of pigeons, known as the cosmono-legged Bohemian swallow, is native to the Czech Republic. It stands out from other pigeon representatives in color. Its feather has a well-defined checkerboard pattern on the wing that retains its structure regardless of color. Bohemian swallows are white-brown, white-black. In addition to the fact that the wings of pigeons are painted with a unique pattern, they also have a mark on their heads - a cockade. And the paws of the cosmonoids are not too similar to ordinary ones: they are densely covered with bright feathers. For its magical appearance, the dove that arrived in Russia from the Czech Republic acquired this name.

Barbs

Not everyone will like the specific breed of barb, since its peculiarity of appearance is expressed in the form of a skin growth around the eye. Among other features, the description of the bird also includes a convex forehead with a short beak.

There are no motley barbs in nature. They can be exclusively monochromatic, in red, black, white or yellow plumage.

Barbies are classified as warty due to leathery formations.

Of course, these are not all types of decorative pigeons, but we have listed the most famous ones.
