Breeding history

This breed of pigeons comes from the East, from western Afghanistan, where it traditionally lived in the mountains. From there, in turn, in the 16th century, the birds, along with settlers, migrated to the Turkmen lands. They live throughout Turkmenistan, as well as in parts of Pakistan and Iran. The population is not very large due to the small increase. Due to its aesthetic qualities, Agaranov can be rented out for wedding ceremonies.

Turkmen pigeons came to Soviet countries in the middle of the last century. Fascinated by the beauty and skills of birds, domestic breeders began breeding the described breed of pigeons at their latitudes. Today, representatives of the "camel" suit can be found not only in their homeland, but also in some other parts of Europe and Asia, mainly in the north of Russia.

Appearance

What distinguishes Turkmen pigeons from their relatives? While in flight, the bird is able to roll and take a vertical position, rotating around its axis. How exactly it looks can be seen in the photo and video. You will immediately notice that Turkmen pigeons have a special, characteristic grace. This is a breed of real feathered acrobats, the flight of which can cause admiration among the audience. Birds can stay in the air for about 4 hours, and representatives of mixed types - all 13.

Unfortunately, it happens that a bird carried away by tricks can lose balance and crash, falling from a great height.

The styles of entering the pole, which are possessed by fighting pigeons from Turkmenistan, are divided into several types: an inclined stance with or without a spiral rotation of the body, as well as with several revolutions (the most intricate style), a curved stance with a back take off or with legs moving. Fans of Agaran tricks also appreciate the noise level of their wings, the speed of takeoff, the grace of somersaults.

What are the features

The name of the species is translated from the native Turkmen as “camel milk cream” - this is the color of the plumage of an ordinary representative. Spectacular and noble, Turkmen fighting pigeons have the following external features:

  • well-developed musculature, wide sweep of a long wing;
  • powerful bulging chest;
  • large sloping head without ornaments;
  • medium-sized wax (the so-called nose);
  • elongated neck;
  • gray or bright yellow expressive eyes;
  • light eyelids;
  • short, rounded light yellow beak;
  • ten-feather tail;
  • intricate crest on the head of true representatives;
  • dense and stiff plumage, small feathers on the paws;
  • yellow stripes are observed on the wings, which the Molokans and Tasmans also have;
  • milky white color with light brown blotches, the tail is usually motley, sometimes there are individuals of a gray color, rarely light yellow, brown, gray.

The chest and neck of the pigeon are diluted with unusual yellow-orange shades, while the head and body are almost always of a noble ash or silver color, the legs are snow-white. The female of Agaran can be distinguished from the male by the external grace of the physique. You can see the birds in more detail in the photo.

Care and breeding

Turkmen fighting pigeons have earned popularity among poultry farmers not only due to their appearance and flight characteristics, but also because of their relative ease of cultivation. Fighting Agarans are very unpretentious in everyday life, their diet is not too different from the requirements of their relatives. Just remember that during the breeding season and flying exercises, Agarans need more protein. Just do not constantly keep the pigeon in the aviary: this has a detrimental effect on its health.

Constant training is required to improve flight techniques. As a poultry house, you should choose a spacious, bright room, regularly ventilate it and do wet cleaning. It is also important to equip nest sections in the house.

As for the Agaran breeding, it can be characterized as follows:

  • the developed instinct of a brood hen in a dove;
  • careful feeding by adults of their offspring;
  • rather low fertility: about 3 chicks per season - this inability is due to the characteristics of the organism of pigeons of this breed, low productivity is also explained by a small increase in the population;
  • male and female take care of chicks together;
  • the best pair will be Agarans with the same characteristics of flight qualities, during the breeding season they are placed in one cage;
  • after the chicks are 1 month old, they need to introduce complementary foods in the form of grains and small insects, at the same age the young are vaccinated;
  • at 2 months, the chicks can already fly, but they become sexually mature by one year.

As you can see, Agarana's pigeons are worthy representatives of the pigeon family, with unique species characteristics. Their flying skills need constant improvement, and in the hands of a good owner, the pigeon has a chance to become a champion in its field. If you are planning to start raising pigeons for your own interest, this breed will be an excellent option. Individuals for breeding can be purchased at poultry farms in some large cities.
