Orchis is a genus of wild orchid. Orchis herb is widely used in folk and official medicine.

It grows in the Caucasus and on the Crimean peninsula. In Europe, it is called Field Orchid, as well as Wild Orchid. Currently, there are definitely over 100 varieties of this herb in nature. But on the territory of the former CIS, only 40 species grow, mainly ornamental or wild plants.

The Orchis plant has such varieties as:

• Orchis of the Monkeys;
• Orchis Purple.

Medicinal properties were not found in decorative varieties. The purple variety is recognized as poisonous in Russia.

The Orchis bush looks differently. It depends on the subspecies and growing conditions. Reproduction of wild Orchis in field growth occurs by self-seeding, ornamental varieties are propagated by the seed method and the root separation method.

Among the whole variety of species, only 4 species are recognized as medicinal:

• Helmeted (helmeted orchis);
• Burnt.

In folk medicine, drinks from the male Orchis are used. The tincture is useful for the following diseases:

• paralysis;
• convulsions;
• bronchitis;
• impotence;
• prostatitis.

• inflammation of the oral cavity.

Preparation

Preparation of orchis tincture on vodka:

• 1/2 rolls of black rye bread (dried);
• 0.5 l. alcohol or brandy;
• 500 gr. dry chopped tubers (Orchis powder)

Crushed Orchis root is poured with alcohol and mixed thoroughly. The mixture is placed in a refrigerator for 3 days. At the end of the three-day period, crumbled rye bread rusks are added to the tincture. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly again. Insist ready mixture for 2 months. It is better to store the container in a cellar or basement.

How to use

The dose is 15 grams. (1 tsp) 3 times a day 15-20 minutes before meals. Spotted Orchis is a plant of medium height (20-25 cm). The second name is purple wild.

The buds are lilac or purple, brown spots appear on them.

• dextrin.

Orchis Helmeted (or Helmet) is a plant of medium height (20-30 cm). The buds are white and pink. Leaves of the correct elliptical shape are located at the bottom of the plant. The collection of roots (tubers) begins at the end of June.

Application in official medicine

The tubers are dominated by:

• caustic substances;
• slime;
• sucrose;
• starch.

The extract from the root is used in the manufacture of drugs for coughs and pneumonia.

Application in traditional medicine

Tincture of alcohol (1 tbsp. L. Per 250 g. Of alcohol) is used in the treatment of the following diseases:

• impotence;
• aggravated prostatitis;
• in acute poisoning.

When applied externally, it helps to relieve inflammation of the skin, accelerates tissue regeneration and promotes wound healing.

Preparation

For cooking you will need:

• dried root powder;
• 400 ml. boiled hot water.

Mix the powder with water, let it brew for two hours. Bring the finished mixture to a boil over low heat (do not evaporate). Boil for 10 minutes, cool. After 3 hours after preparation, the broth is ready for use.

Take 3 times a day, 100 ml. 30 minutes before meals.

Burnt orchis

Burnt Orchis - listed in the Red Book in Russia.The peculiarity of the plant in the unique root system is at the base of 2 large tubers, from which several adventitious spherical processes extend.

The buds are bright crimson or blood red, with full disclosure, the color fades and a whitish sponge with specks or veins appears on each flower.

Application in official medicine

In the Red Book, the Orchis of this variety is included in the third category of endangered species, therefore, the collection of roots is prohibited. For medical purposes, this plant is grown in both indoor and outdoor fields.

The tubers are dominated by:

• caustic substances;

• sucrose;
• starch.

Only young, ripe tubers are suitable for use. They are harvested as the buds bloom, collection time: late June - early August. The tubers are dried and cleaned, after industrial processing, salep is made from raw materials.

Salep is used for:

• diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
• inflammatory processes;
• to regulate the menstrual cycle;
• in case of poisoning;
• to increase the body's resistance to infections.

Application in traditional medicine

A decoction is prepared from dried tubers of the plant and used to prevent unplanned pregnancy.

Contraindications

There are few contraindications to Orchis root. Official preparations based on Orchis (salep) are the safest possible. But in folk medicine, tinctures and decoctions are best used after consulting a doctor.

Conclusion

Medicinal Orchis root is a universal remedy for strengthening the body, which is offered by all state pharmacies. But it is dangerous to prepare infusions and decoctions from it on your own at home, since exceeding the dosage can negatively affect the hematopoietic function.
