Breeding history

Karmals are a breed of pigs bred through hybrid crossing.

To breed this type, the Mangal breed and the Korean herbivore were used. Thanks to this, a hybrid was obtained, adapted to any habitat.

Pigs Karmaly took only the best from their ancestors. From the side of the Vietnamese species, they got a fairly large weight, resistance to various ailments and unpretentiousness in nutrition. The Korean type has inherited active growth, earlier puberty and a calm temperament.

As a result of long-term work, scientists managed to derive 2 types:

  • ordinary Karmal;
  • royal karmal.

Common pigs were born by crossing Korean and Vietnamese pigs. The only drawback is that the quality of their meat is worse than that of the royal ones.

It took a lot of effort to get the royal views. A triple crossing helped to achieve the ideal breed: Mangal had to be mixed with a Korean boar, and the resulting piglets with a Vietnamese one. Royal pigs develop rapidly and produce quality meat.

The royal species are famous for their delicious meat, the cost of which is several times higher than that of ordinary pigs. It is also not easy to get such a product, but there are special farms that sell it.

Characteristic

Karmalov's description says that they are absolutely not aggressive.

Pigs of the Karmal breed look like wild boars. They are large, have a wide chest and curly hair. Piglets of the Karmal breed are born striped. Their stripes are gray and black. The appearance of young pigs differs from that of adults, babies have long and taut legs. The difference between mothers and children is especially clear in the video.

Adults have a beautiful body shape. Pigs of this type are often used at exhibitions. The thick coat allows the pigs to easily endure the cold. Even in severe frosts, animals do not need a warm shelter, so it is advisable to equip a small enclosure for them in which they can walk. The fence can be made from a regular chain-link mesh.

The Karmal breed does not destroy the fence and does not dig a hole under it, they have nothing to do with it. All a pig can do is stand on two legs and lean against the fence. Many farmers say that in such conditions the Karmals are often kept in groups. When the pig walks up, it goes with the rest to the barn.

Growing rules

A pig of the Karmal breed is not picky, so it will not be difficult to raise it. The maintenance of pigs of this species is no different from the conditions created for other types of pigs.

At the age of one month, the piglets are already able to feed and move independently. They eat absolutely everything, so it is permissible to feed them with grass, grain, vegetables and cereals. Karmaly piglets have good immunity, so they do not need vaccinations. Thanks to their thick coat, they do not get overcooled and do not catch colds, but it is necessary to carry out prophylaxis against worms, skin parasites and various ailments.

Farmers who have been breeding and growing Karmals for several years say that there is no point in buying vaccines for vaccinations. All that pigs need is flea and worm repellent.

Those who decide to keep Karmals need to figure out how to choose the right piglets. Before buying, you need to pay attention to the following:

  • Karmal has smart and shiny eyes. They shouldn't look sad or aggressive.
  • The coat should be thick and even.
  • The tail is playful and dry, slightly upturned.
  • The piglet should be active and spin like a whirligig.

The only danger to the piglets is themselves. Their curiosity often pulls into all sorts of trouble, so it is advisable to closely monitor the brood.

Piglets of the Karmal breed should walk in the fence, away from other animals.

Breeding process

Pigs of the Karmal breed grow and develop rapidly - puberty occurs quite early in them. The pregnant sow does not need special conditions, the maintenance is normal, the care is carried out according to the rules.

Puberty in gilts occurs at 4 months, and in boars at 5 months. After reaching this age, animals can be allowed to breed. In this case, a litter of 20 piglets is obtained.

Breeding piglets of the Karmal breed is not difficult, because the sow easily bears and gives birth to offspring. After the birth of babies, there is no need to take any additional measures. Pigs of this type have enough milk for absolutely all babies, so feeding will be carried out naturally until the piglets reach one month of age.

When the kids are one week old, finely chopped grass must be introduced into the diet. But at the age of 2 weeks, they are happy to combine sow's milk and food, which is served in the trough. Upon reaching one month, Karmals completely switch to independent nutrition.

Breeding purebred piglets Karmalov does not require much effort. All that is required of the owner is to observe the process. Pig Karmal brings about 60 piglets in one year. Moreover, they are all healthy and developing well.

Food

Karmal is an omnivorous pig. In the warm season, Karmals prefer to walk in the wild and eat grass and everything edible that comes in their way. Most pigs love acorns, so it's best to walk them next to oak trees. The diet of the Karmals consists mainly of plant foods.

Karmals are very smart. If they do not find a treat in the grass, they begin to push the tree until the acorn falls. In the warm season, feeding the Karmals should include grain or cereals.

Karmals gain the necessary weight in a short period of time. Farmers claim that pigs are happy to eat beets of any kind.

Interestingly, the good appetite of the Karmals promotes the gain of meat, not lard.

All that the species needs is the correct organization of the habitat, because due to the activity of the individual, they often get injured.

Advantages and disadvantages

The breeders have managed to achieve incredible results. The main advantage of the Karmals is considered to be a calm character and easy adaptation to a new place. Sexual maturity occurs early, so 2 litters of piglets can be obtained per year.

Karmal does not need any special food, he eats absolutely everything. The breed has good immunity and is resistant to various diseases. When slaughtered, you can get almost 90% of the meat.

Breeding Karmalov piglets will not be difficult: the pig easily tolerates pregnancy and childbirth.

Another advantage for the breeder is that the cost of meat is several times higher than that of a regular pig.

This type of pig has no disadvantages. The breeders went to great lengths to achieve the perfect breed, and they did it.

Buying pigs Karmal

It will not be difficult to buy piglets, because today the variety is extremely popular. But before buying, it is advisable to study the information on how Karmal should look like.

Despite the fact that the Karmal is already a common type, the risk of buying another breed still remains. To prevent this from happening, you need to choose a mumps according to the signs indicated above.

You can see if the pig is given by observing his behavior: he must behave actively and be cheerful

Conclusion

The pig has been popular since its breeding. The breed has a lot of weight and is not picky in nutrition, so farmers are happy to take it into their farm: the content does not bring trouble, but the benefits are obvious.

This type of pig has good immunity and is easy to adopt in a new place. The main thing is to remember that, despite the resistance to various ailments, prevention must be carried out.
