How to wash a piglet correctly
Compliance with the rules of hygiene is the basis of health. Animals understand this very well: it is no coincidence that cats and dogs can wash themselves. However, some animals do not. For example, piglets are not capable of this. Moreover, they love to be in a swampy area, and if there is none, they are able to create one for themselves. Such needs do not meet hygiene standards, and therefore every farmer needs to know how to wash a piglet.
Why do you need to wash pigs
Washing the pigs is necessary for the animal to feel good, moreover, it affects the quality of the meat after slaughter. Although piglets do not have the same coat as horses or dogs, their skin also needs to be cared for. Failure to wash the piglet for 10 days can cause irritation. The skin begins to irritate, because of this, it may appear:
- allergy;
- rash;
- prickly heat;
- severe irritation;
- itching.
That is why you need to wash your pigs 2-3 times a week - this is ideal. In this case, it is enough to at least pass a cloth over the legs and body. It is not worth carrying out the procedure every day: this can only harm.
Types of washing
Today there are 2 types of piglet washing:
- manually;
- using a special apparatus.
Farmers who keep a small herd can handle the washing of the pigs themselves. Yes, it takes a lot of time, but it helps to significantly save on the purchase of the device. In addition, water treatments help to keep the pen clean, for example, if you feed the piglets with dry feed instead of liquid feed (dairy and vegetable waste).
Of liquid feed, pigs very often arrange a mud bath for themselves, so it is best to transfer the pets to dry feed, and cover the floor with hay.
How to wash pigs by hand
The skin of the pigs is quite delicate, so it should not be rubbed very hard. Moreover, rubbing the mumps can only be done in a straight line from the head to the tail, otherwise the animal is irritated. The second rule is to bathe hot pigs. To do this, you must first apply shampoo to their body, wet the skin and wait until it begins to be absorbed into the body, and the dirt softens.
After that, the mumps must be rubbed. As mentioned earlier, from the head to the tail, slowly removing dirt and bacteria from the skin of the pig. This procedure can be done once every 2 weeks. After all the dirt has been removed from the skin of the lathered pigs, it is necessary to actively douse them with water. It is advisable to wash with slightly cool water, so as not to severely injure the skin of the animal with hot water.
After that, it is best to let the pig dry: keep it in a warm place so that the animal does not get sick. You can wipe it off with a towel or napkins, but this procedure will take too long.
Some farmers find it best to do this in the summer when the risk of getting sick is reduced. In this case, the cleaning itself can be carried out on the street, in the yard.
Washing machine for piglets
There are several types of washing machines today. The first type is very much like a car wash: the pig is placed in a small container, where it undergoes some kind of disinfection.The container is closed after being placed in it. Then, from all sides, as in a shower, they begin to wash it with water, use a gel with small brushes that gently wash the animal, and then let water in again to wash off the remaining dirt. In order to dry the animal, small fans were built in, which gently blow it around, so that the pig gets out of the car dry.
This method takes about 1-2 minutes and reduces the risk of catching a cold, because pigs have rather weak immunity. This technique is most often found in large enterprises.
Washing the pigs is not difficult, the main thing is to follow all the rules. After the procedure, it is necessary to give the animals some kind of treat.
