Planting seeds
Growing begins with planting seeds to produce seedlings. The procedure is carried out in mid-February. New ones need to be placed in a manganese solution to disinfect. In addition to potassium permanganate, the drug "Kemire" or aloe juice is used. The soaking procedure should not last longer than 20 minutes. After that, the seeds are placed on a fabric surface and dried.
Sowing pepper seeds Swallow should be carried out in special containers. For germination, it is better to use light, loose soil that is easy to prepare yourself. You just need to mix humus, sand and garden soil in a ratio of 2: 1: 1, and then start planting. The distance between the seeds should be at least 2 m. The seeds are covered with a small layer of soil, the containers are covered with new plastic wrap to create a greenhouse effect. All containers must be placed in a well-lit room with a temperature of 24 ° C.
Covering material can be removed only after the first shoots appear. As soon as 2 pairs of leaves appear, you need to provide the seedlings with additional lighting using fluorescent lamps. The lighting period should last for 12 hours every day. This is done so that the plant gets used to the daily regimen. Also, the seedlings are hardened daily. For containers, they are taken out into the street. At first, for a few hours, after the time spent on the street is gradually increased to 9 hours, and only at night they are brought into the room.
Transplanting
Seedlings should be transplanted to a permanent place in early May. It is important to choose areas where legumes, cucumbers or cabbage were previously grown. It is not recommended to use the places where nightshade crops were grown, because pepper has diseases similar to these crops.
The soil is chosen with a low alkali content. If the soil has a high acid content, lime is added to it. Planting sweet peppers is carried out according to certain rules. A distance of 50 cm is maintained between the holes, the distance between the rows is 70 cm.
Prepared seedlings are placed in the hole, in which the roots are slightly aligned so that the root system takes up the entire hole and develops better. It is necessary to bury the seedlings in such a way that the area above the roots protrudes slightly above the ground.
Care rules
When growing Swallow pepper, care recommendations must be followed. Regular watering with warm water is required at intervals of 2 days. It is recommended to mulch the beds so that the soil does not dry out so quickly and becomes crusty. After each watering, do not forget about the importance of loosening the soil and removing all weeds.
Top dressing should be carried out 3 times during the entire growing season:
- The first feeding, consisting of a manure solution, is carried out 14 days after planting the seedlings in a greenhouse or open ground. Preparing such a solution is simple: 2 kg of manure are diluted in 10 liters of water.
- The second feeding, which involves the use of a solution of chicken manure, is carried out at the time of the formation of the ovaries. In 5 liters of water, 500 g of droppings are diluted.
- The third stage of fertilization is carried out when the fruits have stopped growing. To resume the process of forming large fruits, minerals (nitrogen or superphosphate) are used. For 10 liters there are 20 g of nitrogen and 50 g of superphosphate. About 1 liter of solution is poured into each bush.
The Swallow pepper needs support and a garter. It is necessary to tie up the bushes as soon as the seedlings reach a height of 30 cm.You can also increase the yield with the help of proper harvesting of fruits. It is recommended to pick the fruits when they have reached technical maturity, that is, they have gained weight and size, but have not turned red. In the storage room, the fruits reach full biological ripeness.
Disease and pest control
According to the characteristics, the variety is resistant to common diseases and parasites. Its immune system allows it to resist diseases such as verticillium wilting and late blight. Also, the plant is very rarely attacked by parasites in the form of aphids, spider mites or slugs.
Prevention of diseases and parasites consists in weeding the beds regularly, because most of the bacteria and pests are located on weeds. Disease can also be prevented by disinfecting seeds or soil for planting.
