Varieties of feeders

Quails are unclean birds, they constantly scatter food around the cage. As a result, the cells have to be constantly cleaned. Is it possible to save energy and remove dirt, even if regularly, but not daily? There is only one way out: select the feeder exactly for the age of the pet.

  1. The bunker feeder for quails is made for adults who have switched completely to dry food. It is attached to the outside of the cage, but there are options for the inside. More expensive and improved hopper feeders can be found in stores. It is equipped with a timer and a dispenser, and automatically pours out a certain amount of feed per day. If you urgently need to leave the house without the master's supervision for a couple of days, that's it. Also, an auto feeder is needed on large farms.
  2. The grooved ones are intended for adult birds and young animals, they can be filled with various feeds. Most models are attached to the outside, so each quail should have an average of 40mm approach.
  3. Tray. A tray feeder is made for the smallest birds. They are installed inside the cage, one type of food is poured. The design is convenient because the chicks are unable to climb inside and scatter food.
  4. By location, the feeder can be suspended or located on the floor.

What should be the feeders

A do-it-yourself quail feeder, made or bought in a store, must meet the requirements:

  1. The size of the quail feeders should be large enough to accommodate food, and slightly larger so that food does not spill out of them and the birds cannot scatter it on the floor. It is necessary to take into account the size of the cage.
  2. The material for the production must be environmentally friendly, non-toxic, one that is easy to clean, such as stainless steel and plastic. The quail tray feeder is made from a profile for suspended ceilings and even from a plumbing pipe. The only rule is that materials are selected from a pet safety point of view. Feathered very easily injure themselves on sharp corners.
  3. The sides are of medium height, not too low or high.
  4. The owner can easily remove and clean an ideal tray on his part, while it should be convenient for birds to use.
  5. The bird takes up 11 mm space near the tray. When calculating the size of the feeder, it is important to take this point into account.

Plastic hopper feeder

The simplest feeder is made from plastic bottles. You will need 1 or 2 large 2 liter plastic bottles and a knife.

  1. The container must be cut into 2 parts. At the bottom of the bottle, cut out round holes with a diameter large enough for the birds to stick their head inside.
  2. Inside the bottom of the bottle, the top should be placed with the neck down, the neck should not reach the very bottom.

The design is simple, just look at the photo to fully understand the principle of its creation. Works almost like an automatic feeder for hungry quail. The feed is poured into the upper part of the bottle, it is poured through the neck onto the "tray". The birds, pushing their heads into the holes, peck food. As space becomes available in the pallet, the grain is gradually poured into it through the neck.

Unlike metal or plywood, bottle bottles are not as reliable, albeit simple. Other do-it-yourself quail feeder designs are more difficult to create than a model from plastic bottles, but patience and work will grind everything.

Plywood feeder

Drawings are the key to success. Before you start making a quail feeder, you need to make drawings. It is best to carefully consider the process in the video before starting work. The advantage of the design is reliability compared to the model made of plastic containers. You will need a CD60 profile, 2 chipboard, plywood (or a sheet of plastic, fiberboard), sealant and tools. You can use almost any material that comes to hand. If there are pieces of laminate in the workshop, they will do the same. The main thing is that the product is not made exclusively of "soft" material.

  1. Cut out the profile and make folds around the edges. Sizes depend on the number of pets and the size of the cage.
  2. Cut 2 side parts from plywood, the lower side of which should be the same width as the profile. The shape of the details resembles the number 7 or boots. At the profile, blunt the sidewall so that the birds do not injure themselves, and fit the side parts to it.
  3. The front and back parts must be of the same height as the side boots. Using tools: self-tapping screws, screws - connect all the parts into a single whole.
  4. It's time to move on to the "cosmetic" amendments. Fill all the cracks noticed with a sealant so that the grain does not spill out. Remove all unnecessary with a knife.

Everything, you can breathe a sigh of relief: the quail feeder is made by hand and of high quality. It remains to install it on the bird cage.

From PP profile

What materials do resourceful owners use to make homemade feeders for their favorite quails! Pipes, bottles - everything that is on the desktop or that can be found in a hardware store is used. In the latter, poultry farmers buy PP profiles, meticulously selecting the highest quality ones and rejecting thin ones.

  1. Calculate the required feeder size. Cut off a piece of the profile, its length should be the same as the length of the cage for keeping birds.
  2. Cut out side parts from plywood, their dimensions are calculated by the size of the PP, they can be higher than the profile so that the feed does not fall out.
  3. Bend the bent edges of the PP and connect it to the plywood walls, hammer in with nails.
  4. Nail the fasteners to the cage.

That's all it takes to create a bunker feeder. A detailed diagram - a reversal for beginners will be a salvation, as well as a video of making a feeder. The first time you have to spend more than an hour.

Products can be successfully used for feeding not only quails, but also any other poultry, except, possibly, ostriches. Hosts with electromechanical skills can try making an automatic feeder. For it, you first need to make a hopper tank, and then equip it with a timer and a dispenser. The finished auto-feeder will feed the pets 3 times a day, automatically pouring a portion of grain into them. Attention: for the product to work, it must be connected to electricity.

When deciding to make a feeder, you need to weigh the pros and cons, soberly assess your abilities. If you have no experience, and you strongly doubt the successful outcome of the case, it is better to go to the store. Now you know how to make quail feeders, mounted and bunker.
