Why huddle cabbage
Hilling cabbage is not a time-consuming process. The care is aimed at the formation of an additional root system, which accelerates the growth of the head of cabbage and allows you to get a large cabbage head.
Hilling allows you to save on fertilizers and increase the yield in a natural way.
Do cabbage varieties (cauliflower or broccoli) huddle and do other crops need such a procedure? When growing seedlings, you can do without hilling, but then you will have to increase watering and feed the soil more often: such care is more difficult and more expensive.
If you huddle cabbage (cauliflower, broccoli or white cabbage), the firmness of the heads will increase, and spilling will be prevented. Hilling is especially important for large varieties that need extra care.
Conditions for the procedure
On the open ground, the crop has no additional protection: large varieties may suffer from improper soil composition, insufficient lighting or watering. With little moisture or nutrients, the head is small and the head becomes deformed. It is necessary to huddle cabbage heads when the head is formed: this is the right period to prevent improper growth of the crop.
It is also necessary to sprinkle the cabbage a second time after 2 weeks after the first, so that the root system has time to recover. Before the procedure, the lower leaves are completely removed: they interfere with the correct formation of the root system. It is better to huddle the crop after the rain. This procedure allows you to retain moisture at the roots. It is important that the soil is free of lumps or stones. Hilling is not carried out without additional loosening of the soil. Additionally, heads of cabbage and seedlings are fertilized with ash (wood) or nitrogen fertilizers.

Care after hilling
After the procedure, the heads of cabbage need additional care. Immediately after hilling, the plant is inspected to avoid insect infestations. Additionally, heads of cabbage are watered abundantly, especially during the growing season.
After the first procedure, watering is carried out regularly: 1 sq. m of soil at least 30 liters of water per week. After the second procedure, the amount of water is increased by 10-15 liters. Watering is reduced if it rains constantly. Periodically, the soil is loosened, the weeds are removed.
