Mushrooms on landfills
Not all places are suitable for harvesting a full-fledged and, accordingly, useful forest harvest. Edible mushrooms on landfills can be dangerous to human life and health.
Collection rules
Any person who goes to the forest for mushrooms or berries must know and follow some rules and have certain things with him:
- supply of water and sandwiches;
- matches;
- sharp knife;
- compass;
- basket;
- remedies for mosquito bites.
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
How to dress properly when going mushroom hunting? This question is not in vain worried about many, because to a large extent your well-being will directly depend on the choice of clothes, therefore:
- Dress appropriately for the weather. If the clothes are chosen correctly, they will not restrict movement and will protect against blood-sucking arthropods. There must be long sleeves and a closed neckline. A scarf or kerchief is suitable to protect the neck. Of course, a camouflage army uniform is ideal. Do not rely on repellents - their duration in a forest or other open area is usually no more than 1 hour.
- Shoes - boots, army boots, or sneakers, but never flip flops or sandals.
- You can bring a disposable plastic raincoat with you.
- There must be a hat on the head - protection from arthropods and weather conditions.
If children go to pick mushrooms with you, dress them brighter so that you can see even with peripheral vision. But it is still not worth taking children to the landfill: it is difficult to keep track of them and there are more dangers here than when visiting the forest.
Before going on a hike, it is necessary to find out where in the district the harvest will be richer and safer. This will be your "intelligence".
It is worth consulting with those who have been to the area more than once. Perhaps there are inactive landfills nearby and you can walk on them, but more often it is unsafe to be on landfills, the soil there is contaminated, so it is better not to touch the plants and mushrooms on them.
Basic collection rules:
- take only those mushrooms in which you are sure;
- do not take copies damaged by pests;
- re-sort at home.
Danger of collection at the landfill
Mushrooms are special organisms that absorb all kinds of toxins from the environment. Therefore, even edible and well-known specimens can cause poisoning.
The landfills are among the most dangerous places for collecting "forest meat". Even where dacha settlements have now appeared, the toxic substances have not yet disappeared from the soil. Sometimes in such warehouses during the Soviet era, mustard gas, phosgene and sarin were stored. Then liquid phosphorus and arsenic compounds were simply buried in the ground, at present it is impossible to accurately find and disinfect such a place, because the maps of this plan were simply not made.
Half-rotted fences and rusty signs point to old shooting ranges, military bases or airfields.
They will mark the places where you cannot go. In Chkalovka and Kubinka near Moscow there were underground lenses with oil and kerosene reserves. The soil in these places is still saturated with chemicals.Fruiting bodies cut in such an area will not do any good.
In addition to landfills, it is dangerous to pick mushrooms near such places:
- near cities;
- near the railway track;
- near highways;
- next to the landfill;
- near oil storage facilities and factories;
- near agricultural land;
- in the area of Chernobyl and other nuclear power plants.
If you move half a kilometer from the track, collection will become safe, but it is better to increase this distance as far as possible up to 3 km. The proximity of agricultural land is dangerous because pesticides and other chemicals are often used there, which get into the ground and, together with groundwater, spread around the area, infecting the fruit bodies growing nearby belonging to representatives of different species.
When picking mushrooms, remember that if the summer or autumn turned out to be dry, you should not immediately rush to pick mushrooms as soon as they appeared after the first rains. There is a high probability that the vegetative body of the fungus (mycelium) absorbed toxic compounds that got into the soil with rainwater. Better wait for the next rain.
Mushroom sites at Russian polygons
Some people prefer to pick mushrooms at landfills, despite the possible danger, they go to a tank or artillery range every year.
Kirillovskoe-Kamenka
On the highway to Vyborg there is a turn to Kirillovskoe. If you go through the village, you will continue to Kamenka. It is not necessary to enter it. There is a landfill in the forest zone, which is not always easy to reach. Sometimes the roads are blocked by the military during exercises. You should not try to get to the place by car, because the roads are broken by tanks, and after the rain they turn into a swamp impenetrable for a person, not like for a car. Therefore, it is better to use a motorcycle that will ride through the forest through any holes.
Kamenka is rich in huge raincoats in spring, which are found at every step along the roadside.
There are many familiar forest species here: honey agarics, boletus, white boletus, mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, etc.
Sometimes bile fungi in this area are found directly on the wood of living trees, which is not typical for other areas.
Often there is a spring and summer honey fungus, an aspen or a fox mushroom (tinder fungus, or fox inonotus).
Local residents rarely collect oyster mushrooms, considering them almost rubbish. They take only when nothing else can be found, and this happens extremely rarely. Oyster mushroom grows in large quantities in clearings, under power lines. By the way. It is difficult to confuse oyster mushroom with other edible species, and in principle they do not have poisonous counterparts on the territory of Russia.
Kamenka is famous for species that are rare in the area.
Gidnellums near Leningrad are rare guests. Description:
- the color is bright orange;
- the leg has grown together with the fruiting body;
- the pulp is tough;
- the size is average.
Refers to conditionally edible. Its aroma is weak. Grows on mosses and fallen pine needles. The color of the old mushroom fades. The milky sap is red and smells like wood.
Luga proving ground
It is better to get to the place by car. It will be possible to enter the territory from the Serebryansky side, where there will be no barrier and security. The area there is huge, about 90 hectares. Therefore, it is easy to find there not only mushrooms, but also berries.
If you enter from the north from the checkpoint and "Vankinoy Bugra", then near the white moss it is easy to harvest the waves and moss. A little further there will be boletus, boletus and smoothies. But there are a lot of kids on the side of the road. If you wander further into the thicket, you will be able to find white, bitters and waves.
There are usually a lot of boletus, boletus and moss mushrooms 1 km from the shooting range.
Conclusion
Mushrooms are healthy and tasty. To eat them, you have to go to the forest and collect a good harvest, then peel and cook. In order not to get poisoned, you must follow safety rules, take copies in trusted and safe places.It is better not to go to the landfill for edible mushrooms due to their potential danger to human health and life.
