The appearance of the mushroom

Let's get acquainted with the peculiarities of the appearance of the fruit body of the May rowing species. The following can be distinguished:

  • Hat: fleshy, up to 6-12 cm in diameter, convex and lumpy-prostrate or flattened shape, with a slightly uneven edge, which sometimes cracks. Young specimens have a characteristic creamy white color. In aged fruit bodies, a yellow-ocher color of the cap is observed. In dry weather, the cap can become covered with radial cracks.
  • Hymenophore: lamellar, in young mushrooms the plates are whitish, in old ones - creamy white. They are narrow and often spaced, sometimes up to 1 cm wide.
  • Spore powder: white, the spores forming it are 5-7 x 3-4.5 microns in size. They are ovoid or short-ellipsoidal in shape, smooth, colorless.
  • Pulp: fleshy, thick, dense structure, white in color, its taste is slightly sweet and pleasant. The pulp has a strong aroma of fresh flour.
  • Leg: clavate or cylindrical, relatively thickened and shortened, dense, narrowing or expanding towards the bottom. The structure is fibrous, the shade can be different: white, creamy-brownish, yellow, ocher, ocher-rusty.

The fruiting period of the St. George mushroom is relatively short, so it should be harvested only in late spring and the first half of June. It is found and grows in the European part of Russia, in North Africa.

Ryadovka May is a very noticeable mushroom due to its rich flour smell and fruiting time, therefore it can be confused only in May-June only with another edible species - garden entoloma.

Irina Selyutina (Biologist):

The well-known Russian mycologist M. Vishnevsky says that despite the fact that the usual fruiting time of the May row is considered mid-May - the end of June, sometimes this type of calocybe can be found in September. However, in appearance, the fruit body is somewhat different: the autumn form has a yellow color, in contrast to the slightly yellowish or beige spring one.

For your information. The May row can grow in groups, forming "witch circles". Due to the closeness of growth, the shape of the cap can often be deformed.

According to the description, among the useful properties of May's calocybe are the following:

  1. Inhibition of the development of cellulite with the help of potassium, which maintains the elasticity of body tissues, optimizes the outflow of lymphoid tissue, normalizes the water-salt balance and restores blood microcirculation to the skin, which contributes to its effective tightening.
  2. Help in losing weight, because due to the high water content, it is able to cleanse the body of toxic substances and toxins, effectively breaks down fats, and helps cleanse the intestines.
  3. Providing a preventive action against the appearance of neoplasms by neutralizing free radicals, heavy metal salts and toxic compounds.
  4. Carries out alkalization in the body, which is especially important in the nutrition of a modern person. Due to oxidative processes, the body ages prematurely, cell renewal is greatly inhibited and there is a risk of tumor formation. This is where mushroom fiber comes to the rescue.
  5. Optimization of heart activity, a significant reduction in the risks of atherosclerotic disease, stroke, heart attack, angina pectoris, arrhythmias and other dangerous pathologies.
  6. Cleaning of blood vessels, which is a preventive measure against the formation of cholesterol plaques, which are extremely dangerous for the body.
  7. Stimulating the immune system through the action of ascorbic acid, which facilitates the absorption of iron, increases the rate of tissue repair, protects the body from stress and the effects of toxins.
  8. Supporting brain activity, helping in the fight against migraines, dizziness, weakness and fatigue, significantly improves memory.
