Pepper seedlings are frozen
If pepper seedlings are frozen, it is necessary to immediately start treating it. There can be many reasons for this, and they are all associated with care errors.
Signs of freezing seedlings
Underfrozen seedlings have a characteristic feature - black or white spots on the leaves. Often not only the leaves turn black, but also the leg.
Gradually, this comes to the root system. It spreads quickly, so if proper measures are not taken, the entire plant may die.
Freezing reasons
Seedlings are frozen mainly by strong spring frosts. Gardeners can make mistakes when planting or leaving.
The main reasons for freezing peppers:
- landing was performed at temperatures below 15 ° C;
- late landing in the ground;
- abundant watering immediately after transplanting from pots;
- lack of nutrients.
Treatment
Method one
Pepper seedlings can be saved with a solution of superphosphate and potassium sulfate. You will need 25 g of superphosphate and 20 g of sulfuric potassium. They are bred in 10 liters of water. This is enough to process 8-10 pepper bushes.
Method two
1 ampoule of 0.25 mg of Epin is diluted in 5 liters of water. It is desirable that the water is not from the tap, but settled, warm. It should be sprayed every 7-10 days until recovery. A prerequisite is calm weather.
Method three
Treatment with urea solution. Take 1 matchbox of urea, which must be diluted in 10 liters of water. It is a good idea to add a growth stimulant to the solution. This is enough to spray 2 m2 of seedlings.
Preventive measures
Preventing peppers from freezing is easy. To do this, you need to adhere to the basic care recommendations and inspect the plant once a week.
Warming of soil
This is a necessity for growing early maturing varieties of pepper. Because they are planted in an early vein, there is a threat of late spring frosts. There are several types of structures: earth rolls, polyethylene shelters.
- Peppers planted in rows can be covered with plastic wrap. To do this, wooden rods bent into an arc with a length of 1.30-1.40 cm are buried with their ends into the ground along rows or beds. The optimal distance is 80 cm from each other. A tourniquet is pulled over the ridge of the arches. A plastic wrap is pulled over the structure. The edges should be covered with earth and secured with pegs. From the end sides, the film is attached with pins to the soil surface.
- Greenhouse construction. Before emergence, the greenhouse should be covered with straw mats. The required temperature regime is 20-25 ° C. After germination, 50-60% of the sown seeds, the greenhouse is opened during the day. For 10-12 days, the temperature is maintained at about 13-16 ° C, after which it is increased to 18-22 ° C.
- It is necessary to constantly monitor the good ventilation of the greenhouse. Due to the high temperature, strong evaporation occurs in it, which favors the development of diseases.
Watering
Pepper seedlings need a lot of water to grow.In the absence of proper watering, you should not expect a good harvest.
Basic rules for watering:
- the water must be heated and settled;
- it is better to water in the morning or late evening, with a steady warming of the weather - in the afternoon;
- after watering, the plant is ventilated.
The need for water in the later phases of plant development is determined by the condition of the soil. If it is dry, water it; if it is wet, do not.
Bedding
To obtain an early harvest of pepper in the open field, seeds are sown by the end of February - after February 20 or at the beginning of March (in a semi-warm greenhouse). Since the culture does not dive, the sowing should not be thickened - no more than 8-12 g of seeds are sown under one greenhouse frame.
The pepper is ready for planting in the ground from early May to May 20. It takes 45-50 days after germination to grow non-dived benign seedlings. External conditions are favorable for planting in open ground, when there is no danger of late spring frosts. The soil is not frozen, and its temperature has risen above 14 ° C.
Pepper is a light-loving plant. A large amount of sunlight accelerates the development of the pepper and increases its yield. Do not grow peppers in shady areas. Greenhouse seedlings always need to provide enough light. Light mutual shading of plants is useful in the summer heat.
Top dressing
When the soil in a greenhouse or in a garden bed is poor, two additional dressings are carried out to obtain strong bushes. The first is given after the formation of the first 2 true leaves in the seedlings, and the second - 2 weeks after the first.
The main types of dressings:
- Ammonium nitrate. Dissolve 2 g in 5 l of water. Top dressing is carried out in cloudy weather or in the afternoon. The moisture content of the soil increases, as a result of which the risk of infection of plants with a black leg increases.
- Before sowing seeds, the soil is filled with mineral fertilizers. Take 2 g of ammonium nitrate, 6 g of superphosphate and 3 g of potassium fertilizers per 1 m2. In the last days, before sowing in open ground, it is hardened.
- Organic food - mullein, bird droppings. They are diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 4. You can make podzhivki twice per season.
If you carry out these top dressing on time, then the pepper seedlings can no longer be fed. The root system is strengthened, and the leaves will have a rich color.
Soil moisture
Peppers can only be grown in irrigated areas because it has high soil moisture requirements. With insufficient soil moisture, especially during the fruiting period, the yield decreases. The fruits become small and deformed. Pepper is intolerant to atmospheric drought.
Low air humidity, accompanied by high temperatures, causes flowers and ovaries to fall off. In the early phase of its development, it extracts few nutrients from the soil. During flowering and at the beginning of fruit formation, its need for nutrients increases significantly. Most of the nutrients are consumed during the period of mass fruiting.
Conclusion
If the pepper seedlings are slightly frosty, then they can be saved, but the harvest will be weak. Therefore, you need to look after. Plant peppers at a soil temperature of at least 14 ° C. Air the guys and keep them warm.
