Cucumber variety Ant
The ant cucumber variety is an early ripe hybrid of the gherkin type, designed for growing in open ground, greenhouses and under film shelters.
Characteristics of the variety
Cucumber Ant f1 is a cultivar with a female flowering type (parthenocarpic form). Fruiting of the culture begins after the emergence of mass shoots (about 1.5 months from the moment of planting).
The characteristic features of the variety include:
- early maturity (the first harvest ripens within 37-38 days from the moment of emergence);
- high productivity;
- unpretentiousness in relation to the external conditions of growth, cold resistance (calmly tolerates short-term drops in temperature);
- lack of bitterness in fruits, inherent at the genetic level;
- immunity against common diseases (cucumber mosaic, olive spot, powdery and pseudo-powdery mildew).
The only drawback of the hybrid is the impossibility of growing a new generation from their seeds, since the seedlings will be significantly inferior in quality to the mother plants.
Description of the bush
Ant bushes F1 are characterized by medium height, short side shoots and a powerful main stem. The variety can be planted in confined spaces, because culture does not grow.
Features of the structure and development of the plant:
- parthenocarpic form of flowering (only female flowers are formed);
- medium climbing (side shoots are short, the plant is quite compact);
- the plants do not need pollination by bees (the variety is suitable for growing in a greenhouse) and do not run the risk of being pollinated by other varieties;
- the growth of the central stem is not limited to the flower raceme, the vigor is medium;
- bouquet formation of ovaries (from 3 to 7 fruits in one node);
- the leaves are medium-sized, painted in dark green, their surface is slightly wrinkled, the edge is slightly wavy;
- when fruits are removed from the plant in the gherkin stage, the total amount of zelents increases.
Description of the fetus
External parameters and taste of cucumbers Ant f1 are due to their specific characteristics.
Description of the fruit of the cucumber Ant:
- fruits are small (about 8-11 cm in length), oval;
- the weight of the fetus is on average 100-110 g;
- large bumps on the surface of the fruit, the ribs are poorly expressed;
- bright green thin skin with parallel white stripes running from the top to the middle of the fruit;
- light green juicy pulp, medium-dense, without bitterness, crispy and aromatic;
- pubescent fruits with white thorns.
The fruits of this hybrid ripen a week and a half earlier than other varieties, but they also finish bearing fruit earlier than others. On one node, up to 7 fruits are formed and ripen at the same time. This leads to a high yield of seedlings: up to 12 kg per 1 sq. m.
Cucumbers have good transportability and retain their presentation even during long-term transportation.
Care
This hybrid is usually grown in greenhouses, but it also shows high performance in open field conditions.Planting of cucumbers is carried out with dry seeds or seedlings (which accelerates fruiting) in a fertile soil warmed up to 10-12 ° C.
When planting, it is important to monitor the density of the crops for optimal light transmission.
The hybrid is classified as an unpretentious plant, but for better growth it requires:
- at least 3-4 feeding during the growing season (chemical or natural fertilizers can be used);
- timely abundant watering with warm water (preferably drip irrigation);
- weeding and weeding;
- loosening the soil for better air permeability;
- mulching the soil (allows you to reduce the amount of weeding and reduce water consumption during irrigation).
For good growth and full development, it is important to carefully control the degree of thickening of seedlings, removing diseased and malformed ones. It is recommended to plant 3-5 seedlings per 1 sq. m in open ground and 2-3 seedlings per 1 sq. m in greenhouses.
Saplings tolerate various weather conditions well, but their fertility directly depends on the abundance of sunlight: the more there is, the more ovaries are formed on the plant.
Diseases
The most common infection of cucumbers with fungi. These include:
- dry spotting (alternaria);
- copperhead (anthracnose);
- root and root rot;
- black stem rot (ascochitis);
- wilting cucumber (tracheomycosis).
Most often, these diseases manifest themselves as spots on the leaves (on the inside of which the mycelium appears) or ripening fruits.
The fight against fungal infections is carried out by disinfecting the soil, controlling its moisture capacity, maintaining the optimal air temperature and preventive treatment with special preparations.
Cucumbers of the Ant variety have genetic immunity against powdery and downy mildew, cladosporium and peronosporosis, which are dangerous for other varieties.
Of the bacterial diseases, the most dangerous is angular leaf spot (bacteriosis), which affects almost all visible parts of the shrub. The best prevention of bacteriosis is the choice of healthy planting material and thorough disinfection of soil and crops.
Conclusion
Variety Ant F1 is a hybrid of universal use. Miniature size, excellent taste, resistance to many diseases, early ripening of fruits, high yield and transportability - all this brings him well-deserved popularity and love of many gardeners.
