Description of potatoes Lugovskoy
Lugovskoy potatoes have become widespread among large farms and private landowners. If other crops need to be changed every couple of years, then this variety is not prone to degeneration. The tubers have a pleasant taste, contain a large amount of vitamins and starch.
Characteristics of Lugovskoy potatoes
Lugovskoy's potatoes were selected on the basis of the well-known Sineglazka in Ukraine. The main difference is a consistently high yield level and good keeping quality, 97% of the total yield is preserved. The Lugovskoy potato variety ripens 80-90 days after planting. Differs in high taste.
The species is resistant to many common potato diseases. Medium resistant to late blight. Too moist soil increases the risk of top rot.
Description of the plant
The external characteristics of the plant, in principle, are not striking in their uniqueness. The plant can be described as follows:
- bushes of medium size, erect;
- leaf is dark green, matte, medium size;
- inflorescences are compact, cream or white.
Fruit type
On the cut, the potato does not darken; it crumbles during heat treatment. It is used for cooking various dishes, as well as for making starch. Characteristics of Lugovskoy potatoes:
- oval potatoes;
- the skin is pale pink, thin, has a glossy texture;
- eyes, almost invisible.
Lugovskoy potatoes description of the variety in terms of fertility: medium-sized tubers, weight up to 200g, about 514 centners can be harvested from 1 hectare. One bush gives 1-2 kg of excellent quality tubers with regular deep loosening of the soil. The fruits are high in vitamin C, proteins and starch. The oblong shape and smooth texture make the cleaning process much easier.
Growing
The Lugovskoy potato variety is not picky about the type of soil. Productivity directly depends on the implementation of the rules of care and agricultural technology. Most often, root crops are used for breeding, specially selected for seeds even during harvest. Agronomic requirements will differ depending on the purpose of growing potatoes: seed or food.
In the conditions of large farms or, on the contrary, too small, when there is no possibility to change the place for planting every year, in the autumn period after harvesting, the territory is sown with green manure plants. These include:
- winter crops;
- cucumbers;
- legumes;
- grass.
In cold regions, it is more advisable to use winter crops or grass, because cucumbers simply do not have time to ripen. Although some people prefer to simply fertilize the soil with manure in the fall and the yield of potatoes does not suffer from this. The main thing is that the site is well lit, because in a humid climate, the culture will get sick with late blight. The description of the Lugovskoy potato allows it to be planted in the ground when the ground warms up to 8 ℃.
For growing, you should not choose too large potatoes, it is better to pick up small tubers with thick sprouts. For any varieties, Lugovskoy is no exception, it is recommended to germinate seed material before planting. This move significantly speeds up the ripening process.
Soil preparation
Fertilizing the soil should begin in the autumn. If there is an opportunity to change the location of the potato plantation, it will be better. First you need to remove all the weeds and dig up the ground. The digging depth should be at least 30 cm, this will protect the plants from many diseases and pests. The collected tops can be burned and the soil fertilized with ash. In the fall, the following types of fertilizers are applied to the soil:
- compost;
- superphosphates;
- saltpeter;
- phosphorus or potassium fertilizers.
Seed preparation
The characteristic of Lugovskoy potatoes allows planting a crop in mid-May, when the soil warms up well. You should choose a good planting material without rot with large eyes. Potatoes are germinated using various methods. One of the best options for germination in a package.
Lugovskoy seed potatoes are folded in a bag with pre-drilled holes to ensure air intake and avoid overheating. In just 1-2 weeks sprouts appear. There is no need to wait until they become too large, literally 3-5 cm is enough. The main thing is that the sprouts are powerful, not thin.
Before planting, you should spray the potatoes with insecticides or dip them in a manganese solution for 30 minutes. If solutions are used to disinfect or accelerate growth, be sure to dry the seed material before planting. If you cover the ground after planting, the culture will sprout faster.
Disembarkation process
In the spring, a month before planting, you need to plow the soil again. Then add organic matter or superphosphates. Before planting, markings should be made, taking into account that there should be a distance of about 40 cm between the holes for edible potatoes, and 10 cm for seeds. The greater the distance between the bushes, the larger the tubers will turn out.
A distance of 70 cm must be left between the rows. When planting, the first feeding of the plants is carried out. Ash or chicken droppings are commonly used.
Care
In order for Lugovskoy potatoes to give a good harvest, regular cultivation must be carried out. They begin it already when the first powerful shoots appear. Between the rows, the soil should be thoroughly loosened and weeds should be eliminated. If the weather is wet, the soil should be cultivated deeper than 10 cm. The procedure is carried out 3 times with an interval of 15 days.
Be sure to loosen the soil after watering or precipitation. The description of the Lugovoi potato variety makes it possible not to water it at all in the middle lane. But, in arid southern regions, care must be taken so that the soil does not dry out. Hilling is not practiced in the southern regions. When adding soil, the ground part in the heat loses too much moisture, which can negatively affect the quality of the crop.
In the northern regions and the middle lane, hilling is carried out 2 times. They begin to sprinkle the bushes with earth at the moment when the sprouts reach 15-18 cm. For the first time, about 10 cm of earth is poured, in the second 20. For the entire period of growth, fertilizer is applied 3 times:
- at the time of landing;
- at the stage of budding;
- after flowering.
Pests and diseases
With all its high resistance to all kinds of diseases, with improper care, Lugovskoy Potatoes can be affected by late blight and other fungi. For prophylaxis, all seed material is disinfected before planting or preventive spraying with fungicides is carried out before the start of the rainy period. Usually, for the prevention and treatment of phytophthora, the following drugs are used: Fitosporin, Cuproxat, copper sulfate, Artsdil.
Juicy potato tops are always a tasty morsel for all kinds of pests, and there is still no such variety that would not suit the taste of the Colorado potato beetle. In addition to them, aphids, fly, spider mite can attack potatoes. Get rid of them with insecticides.
Harvesting and storage
When the tops of the blockage or turned yellow, then it's time to dig the potatoes. Harvesting should not be too late, otherwise the tubers will lose their taste. It is not necessary to mow the tops before harvesting. After digging up, the roots should be laid out in the sun so that they are aired and dry, literally for 2 hours.
After that, the tubers are sorted and stacked in boxes. Seed potatoes are left in the sun for 2-3 days to turn green. Such fruits become unattractive to rodents and are better stored.
Tubers are sent for storage, which do not have damage, dirt, softened parts and an unpleasant odor. Sorting and rejection should be carried out especially carefully, because one rotten potato can cause the loss of a significant amount of the crop. The potato storage room should be dark. Rejection is carried out 2 times:
- after digging up;
- in 3 weeks.
Within 3 weeks after harvest, the crop is in a room with a temperature of 13 to 18 ℃. Gradually, it will need to be reduced to 4 ℃. In the cellar, potatoes will be stored in exactly this temperature regime. In addition, it is necessary to observe the humidity regime, not lower than 80-90%.
Final part
Lugovskoy's potatoes were bred in Ukraine. Differs in good keeping quality, high quality indicators. Resistant to many diseases such as potato cancer, scab, black leg. Distributed throughout the post-Soviet space.
The variety has gained particular popularity due to its unpretentiousness to the soil composition. It responds well to regular deep loosening of the soil and fertilization. The main advantage of the variety is the lack of a tendency to degeneration. If other varieties should be changed after 2-3 years, maximum 5, then Lugovskoy potatoes can only be bred using seed material obtained on their own. Today it is the most popular variety among private landowners and large farms. The description of quality indicators allows the species to be widely used for the preparation of various dishes, commercial activities, as well as the manufacture of starch.
