Mushroom season in October 2019
The mushroom picker's calendar is made up for each year, depending on weather forecasts and terrain. Mushrooms in October 2019 can be collected throughout Russia, where there are forests or swampy areas.
What mushrooms grow in October
The mushroom season begins in mid-spring and lasts until the first autumn frosts. The growth rate depends on the humidity of the air. Most mushrooms are harvested in May, August and September.
In October, there are already cold rains, the first frosts begin. Such weather is not conducive to the growth of mushrooms. In October, there are still such varieties:
- oyster mushrooms;
- honey agarics;
- white;
- aspen mushrooms;
- raincoats;
- green flywheel;
- pink wave;
- black mushroom;
- spruce and pine mushrooms;
- winter;
- russula;
- greenfinches.
October harvests are well suited for salting. For freezing and preparing fresh dishes, mushroom pickers go hunting in June-July.
The fruit body of the fungus grows by 1.5-2.5 cm per day. Honey mushrooms grow in 10 days, white and aspen mushrooms in 2 weeks. After the ripening of the spores, rotting processes begin in the fruit body, so it is important to have time to collect young fungi.
Where to pick mushrooms in October
The duration of the 2019 mushroom season depends on the weather. The crops will be in the following regions:
- Samara Region: here you can collect a lot of winter mushrooms;
- Crimea: representatives of all late species are widespread;
- Krasnodar region: richest region;
- Rostov region: you can "hunt" for chanterelles, boletus and champignons;
- Volgograd region: oyster mushrooms, raincoats, boletus are waiting for you.
In the Leningrad and Moscow regions due to the cool climate, the number of mushrooms decreases by October. Mushroom families are recommended to look under stumps and trees. In the Leningrad Region, favorable conditions for the growth of "forest meat" are also created due to the large number of swamps.
In the Sverdlovsk region rich seasons happen. Then boletus grow abundantly in the forest. But fungi in this area quickly damage worms.
Recommendations
Droughts, which often occur in the summer in the middle lane, lead to the fact that fungal cells actively accumulate a large amount of toxins from the environment. Harvesting in such conditions is prohibited, because the risk of poisoning increases significantly.
Going out hunting in the Crimea, the forests of the Kuban and the Rostov region, one should beware of vipers. In October, they are already preparing for hibernation, but some representatives remain active and can attack. After a snakebite, the victim definitely needs medical help.
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
Very often mushroom pickers, and not only confuse vipers with snakes. How to distinguish a poisonous snake from a snake or a snake? To do this, you need to remember the main signs of the "appearance" of the viper:
- the pattern on the back is usually in the form of a zigzag (zipper);
- the tail is short and tapers sharply;
- the head is triangular;
- small shields are located on the upper part of the head;
- the pupil of the eye is vertical.
The ability to immediately identify these main distinctive features will come with experience, however, even if you do not need it in life, it is all the same: forewarned is forearmed.
If it so happened that someone in your company was bitten by a viper, you need to consistently:
- free the wound from the poison (suck it off) in the first 10 minutes after the bite, until edema appears (if it occurs, the removal of the poison is stopped). The person who removed the poison from the wound needs to rinse his mouth with water;
- treat the bite site with an antiseptic (iodine, brilliant green, alcohol);
- apply a tight bandage;
- fix the limb in one position (motionless);
- give plenty of fluids and antihistamines (for example, tavegil, suprastin, diphenhydramine);
- deliver to the nearest medical facility.
When bitten by a viper, it is strictly forbidden:
- drink alcohol;
- cauterize the affected area;
- cut the wound or inject potassium permanganate into it;
- put a tourniquet on the bite site.
The rainy end of September creates favorable conditions for the growth of poisonous mushrooms in October. To avoid poisoning, it is recommended to carefully study the descriptions of the edible varieties that grow in a particular area and carefully examine each mushroom.
If a lot of fly agarics grew in a mushroom meadow in summer, this is a sign of the ecological purity of the area. Glades and forest edges with an abundance of russula are skipped mushroom pickers with experience, because the soil in the area is contaminated.
The quality of fungi on the outskirts of the forest is the same as in deep thickets. You should not wander deep into unfamiliar forests, so as not to get lost on the road.
Mushroom poisoning
In October, the danger is posed by old mushrooms that survived the frost. Cobwebs also grow in marshy areas at this time, most of which are toxic.
Experts recommend eating only young specimens. Their caps are not yet fully opened, and the disputes are not ripe. When the spores are ripe and get enough sleep, the product loses its nutritional value; it is better to leave it in the forest as a biological material for the next year's harvest. The curved cap indicates that all the spores have spilled out, and the fruiting body is undergoing destruction processes in which toxic compounds are formed in the body of the fungus.
The main symptoms of poisoning:
- headache;
- nausea, vomiting;
- frequent loose stools;
- in severe cases, hallucinations, loss of orientation and consciousness.
The poisoned person must immediately rinse the stomach. A person should drink 1.5 liters (or more) of pure water or a pink solution of potassium permanganate, induce vomiting. Then you should seek medical help. The frequency of poisoning increases during the peak of the mushroom season, one of which occurs in October.
Conclusion
October 2019, according to forecasts, will be mushroom in many regions of our country. Novice mushroom pickers should carefully study the descriptions of edible and inedible varieties, the rules for their collection and preparation. Temperature conditions in October favor the growth of false and toxic fungi. It is better to go on a hike with a more experienced colleague.
