How to grow a tomato tree
Some summer residents in their greenhouses on their personal plot manage to grow not just tomato bushes, but a whole tomato tree at home. It is larger in size and bears fruit much longer.
Characteristics of the tomato tree
The main purpose of growing is often the desire of gardeners to get large yields over a long period of time. It is capable of bearing fruit until mid-autumn. At the same time, when growing, summer residents save time and effort in caring for it. This is the undoubted advantage of such cultivation of tomatoes.
The tomato plant grown by EM technology shows good resistance to cold season and disease resistance.
Among the disadvantages of this growing method:
- a lot of space is required,
- it is necessary to have a greenhouse for regions with a cold climate, since in the short summer of Siberia and the Urals, the grown tomato tree in the open field does not have time to ripen.
In the absence of greenhouse structures, some tributaries have adapted to plant it directly on the balcony, and not in the soil.
What is required
Summer residents get the best results when growing a tomato tree with tomatoes with the correct selection of varieties that can bear fruit for a long time, as well as with the use of EM fertilizers that help enrich the soil and ensure the growth of a vegetable crop.
Seed material
For growing, the tomato tree requires those varieties that are tall. Among the most suitable for this purpose are tomato seeds Ilya Muromets and Pink Giant, De Barao and Sprut-f1, which reach a good height and grow in width, form many ovaries.
Greenhouse
Growing a tomato tree with tomatoes requires a greenhouse, preferably a heated one. Such conditions allow a vegetable crop to grow both a small tomato tree at home and the size of a giant in just 1.5 years. The temperature regime in the greenhouse should be maintained at a level of 20-25 ° C. In warm regions, summer residents are limited to covering with a film.
Capacity
The plant does not need to be planted in open ground, but to use a container for planting, which is a simple iron barrel without a bottom. Holes are made in the barrel from the sides for oxygen to penetrate through them, and the absence of a bottom allows the plant to absorb the required amount of water. In the absence of a suitable barrel, summer residents try to grow the plant in ordinary wooden boxes.
Fertilizers
Achieving good yields from a tree with tomatoes is possible if fertilizers with effective microorganisms are applied. You can also replace the EM complex with organic matter intended for growing vegetables. The main condition for the use of mineral compositions is the sufficiency of nutrition for a large tomato giant.
Landing subtleties
Compliance with the basic requirements for planting your homemade tomatoes can lead to the expected result.
Tomato seedlings
Seeds are planted on seedlings in order to grow a tomato tree from it as early as possible, some begin greenhouse planting as early as January. For the comfortable growth of tomato seedlings, soil is selected with a high content of vermicompost in it and the temperature regime in the greenhouse is maintained at the proper level. With a lack of daylight hours in winter, the planted seeds for tomato seedlings are additionally illuminated with artificial sources.
Seat selection
A container with planted seedlings is displayed in a greenhouse or on a balcony in the place where the sun's rays mostly fall. When choosing a suitable place, it should be remembered that a plant requires a lot of free space for growth, since the crown will later spread in width up to 2 meters.
The soil
The soil in iron barrels or boxes where the plant will be planted should be laid out in layers:
- urgas is placed down, the thickness of its layer should be at least 10-15 cm,
- the next layer is sod mixed with EM fertilizer, it fills a barrel or box to a height of one third,
- the surface layer is simple soil from the beds, which is sprinkled on top of both laid layers.
Landing
Planting of grown seedlings begins in April-May. The most powerful seedling is selected for the base. After planting in open ground, the container is covered with a film at night to provide the necessary warmth. Over time, arcs are made to cover the growing seedling to use them as a support for the film coating.
Further care
Further care is not much different from how to care for simple vegetable bushes.
Stepping
The lower leaves are removed 1 week after the tomato tree is planted in open ground. Sprinkle the shoot with a mixture of urgasa, turf and earth in equal proportions. After a week's interval, the pinching procedure is repeated, removing the leaves that have appeared. Do this until the top grows to the edge of the container in which the seedling is planted. Grasshopping is required for all varieties, with the exception of the hybrid Sprut-f1.
Watering and fertilizing
Water the tomato tree abundantly, especially in hot weather. Watering is carried out every day, it is better to do this in the morning.
Closer to the beginning of July, the plant will use up almost all the accumulated nutrients and will require additional feeding, which is carried out 1-2 times every 7 days. For fertilization, summer residents often use the drug Baikal or herbal infusions.
Forming brushes
A properly planted plant has many ovaries hanging from the container. For the full development of the plant, it is supported in the form of a stretched mesh or supports, to which branches are tied. The result is a true tomato crown.
Features of the preparation of dressings
For growing the tomato giant in a summer cottage, the best fertilizer is Urgas, EM-kommost and EM-top dressing.
Urgas
Fermented organic waste is a valuable food source for tomatoes. Urgasa is cooked in winter:
- small drainage holes are made in a dense garbage bag of dark color,
- a grate is placed on the bottom of the plastic bucket, on which a garbage bag filled with chopped organic food waste is placed,
- as the waste is filled, the contents are sprayed with EM preparations diluted with water at a concentration of 1: 100,
- a load is placed on top of the bag.
The resulting liquid in the bucket is drained every few days. When filling a garbage bag, Urgas is taken out to the balcony, where, in cold conditions, microorganisms begin to slow down their active life, until they are used in the spring in the garden.
Compost
EM compost is similar in principle to urgas, except that in addition to fermented organic waste, it also contains earth and sawdust. The procedure for self-preparation of EM compost is similar to that of urgas, only initially sawdust is poured onto the bottom of the garbage bag, then a layer of waste and then a layer of earth. from above, the entire composition is sprayed with an EM preparation.
Top dressing
EM-top dressing is made from soil mixture and ready-made EM-compost in equal proportions and filled with water 1: 2, letting it brew for a day. Another type of feeding can be infused chopped green parts of plants, which are mixed with EM compost, mullein and ash.
