Caring for cabbage won't add to the hassle

Cabbage varieties Romanesco can be planted as a seedling or seedling method. It all depends only on the climatic conditions of the region. In the northern and central parts of the country, planting is carried out only in seedlings, because the growth of this variety depends on the weather and temperature conditions. Planting in the southern parts of the country can be carried out with the help of seeds, because in such areas there is rarely a drop in temperature below 0 ° C.

Seedling

First of all, the seeds are planted to obtain seedlings. Residents of the northern and central parts of the country plant seeds in early April, for the south, planting is possible in mid-March.

  • A large container is used in which holes are made at a distance of 5 cm from each other.
  • Several seeds are laid out in each hole to increase germination rates.
  • The container is placed in a warm room, where it is kept at a temperature of 20 ° C for 2 weeks.
  • After the first shoots appear, the daytime temperature should be 10 ° С, and the nighttime temperature should be about 8 ° С.

Landing in open ground

Romanesco cabbage is planted in open ground only after the ambient temperature is 13 ° C. It is important to make sure that the frost does not recur again.

Growing Romanesco cabbage is possible only in fertile soils with a low acid-base balance (about 4%). The precursors of cauliflower can be legumes or cucumbers. After other varieties of cabbage or eggplant, the cultivation of this crop is highly discouraged, since the soil after them contains few nutrients. In this respect, Romanesco and broccoli are similar: both crops cannot germinate in infertile soils. The landing pattern should be 60x70 cm.

Crop care recommendations

Caring for the variety is simple. Be sure to monitor the level of watering: the plant is moistened no more than once every 4 days, otherwise it leads to decay of the root system. It is recommended to stick to the drip irrigation system. This allows the plant to grow faster.

The culture needs timely weeding and weeding. Loosening of the soil should be done to a depth of 7 cm. This is enough to remove the top crust and not disturb the root structure.

Romanesco cauliflower should be fertilized only 3 times during the entire growing season.

  • The first feeding using organic fertilizers (2 kg of humus or 3 kg of bird droppings per 1 sq. M) is carried out 20 days after the moment of planting in open ground.
  • The second feeding - at the time of the formation of inflorescences. It is carried out with the help of potassium or phosphorus (20 mg of fertilizer is diluted in 10 liters of warm water and 1 liter is poured into each bush).
  • The third feeding is carried out at the beginning of fruiting. At this point, it is important to use nitrogenous substances (30 g of nitrate is diluted in 5 liters of water and pour 1.5 liters of solution under each bush).

Harvesting is carried out only in dry cloudy weather. With an abundant amount of sunlight, the inflorescences can wither, which negatively affects the duration of storage, especially since this species is characterized by low shelf life: about a month.

Fight disease or parasites

Varieties of Romanesco tend to be subject to the same diseases and pests that are characteristic of the ordinary white-headed culture. You can heal a plant from a keel or black leg with the help of Bordeaux liquid (5 mg per 10 l of water). This solution should be sprayed every 10 days, until the disease is completely destroyed. You can get rid of powdery mildew or bacteriosis only by removing the bush from the site and then burning it.

In the fight against a flea or a butterfly, colloidal flour is used: 30 g of the drug are diluted in 10 liters of warm water and sprayed with an interval of 10-12 days. When aphids appear, the procedure is carried out with a copper-containing preparation "Oxyhom" (about 50 mg of the preparation should be per 10 liters of water).

Conclusion

Follow the recommendations when growing Romanesco cabbage. With proper care, you can get a harvest of an unusual-looking vegetable that contains a large amount of vitamins.
