Safe collection

It is recommended to go mushroom picking after rains

It is recommended to go mushroom picking after rains

The peak of food poisoning has been in September for many years. Many do not understand the varieties and can collect by mistake not only toxic, false, but also old mushrooms.

Gathering mushrooms is allowed only in forests, plantings, groves away from busy highways, businesses, hospitals and cemeteries. The mycelium quickly absorbs toxins that accumulate in such an attractive and appetizing fruit body at first glance.

It is preferable to go hunting after warm little "mushroom" rains. Fungi grow within 3-4 days, reaching an average size in 6 days. In dry periods, the edibility of fruit bodies decreases.

Only young mushrooms that have not yet ripened spores are allowed to be eaten. This is evidenced by the unopened cap (under it there is a solid film - a veil covering the hymenophore). Adult mushrooms lose nutrients and accumulate a number of toxins.

In edible varieties, the plates can change color as the body grows. Therefore, if in a family different representatives of the plate (tubes) have different shades, it is allowed to collect mushrooms. Attention! In the atlases of edible and poisonous mushrooms, this fact (age-related changes in the color of the hymenophore) must be indicated. For poisonous, the plates remain white, but there are exceptions to the rule.

You need to be careful about mushrooms that grow on tree bark and stumps. Their edibility depends on the life of the tree.

Usage rules

Mushrooms are not recommended for children under 7 years of age, pregnant women, patients with ulcers, kidney failure.

Before eating, the mushrooms must be thoroughly rinsed and cooked for 15-25 minutes.

Signs of food poisoning are:

  • dyspeptic disorders;
  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • cramps in the abdomen;
  • hallucinations;
  • impaired coordination of movements.

Symptoms appear during the first days after the ingress of toxins into the body. For cleansing, doctors recommend to induce vomiting before the arrival of an ambulance. To do this, drink 1-1.5 liters of water or a weak solution of potassium permanganate in 1-2 approaches.

Irina Selyutina (Biologist):

Quite often, there are problems associated with poisoning with a pale toadstool, because the toxins contained in its pulp (phalloidin and amanitin) cause damage to the liver and myocardium. These poisons are resistant to high temperatures and are not destroyed by any type of heat treatment or drying. The first symptoms appear after 6-12 hours and may not be associated with the consumption of mushrooms by the victim. They can be mistaken for ordinary indigestion. This is the first danger of death cap poisoning. Then you may experience abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, dehydration and intense thirst. Then there may be an improvement, and after 3-5 days, when the "quiet" working destroy the liver, kidneys, nervous system, there is a catastrophic drop in blood sugar and loss of consciousness, which in combination can lead to death. Therefore, in case of poisoning with a pale toadstool, urgent hospitalization is required. Special laboratory tests will help to determine the presence of pale toadstool toxins in the blood.

Of course, before being admitted to the hospital, the victim must be provided with first aid (rinse the stomach, etc.). In the conditions of a medical institution, he will be given an exchange blood transfusion, hemodialysis, and will be administered:

  • intravenously: glucose with insulin;
  • subcutaneously: atropine (in case of respiratory failure).

Therefore, when processing mushrooms, it is important to carefully sort them again, and if you suspect the presence of a pale toadstool among them, destroy the entire harvest.

Treatment of intoxication is carried out with the help of sorbents, and then drugs to restore healthy microflora. Symptomatic therapy is also carried out. In case of severe poisoning, prolonged vomiting and diarrhea, emergency medical attention is required. A person who has been poisoned is advised to drink water from a spoon to prevent dehydration.

Conclusion

September 2019 will be fruitful for mushrooms in many regions of Russia. This month mushrooms of 1-4 categories grow. Before leaving for the forest, it is imperative to study the area with the help of a map, and with the help of an atlas or a reference book with photos or pictures of the mushrooms that are characteristic of it. Only the attentiveness of the mushroom picker will help to avoid poisoning.
